Re: TV series

Just started watching "The Fall" although it's in it's 3rd series now. BBC offering set in Ireland about a serial killer and the inspector brought it to find him. Seems a bit different - going into the family life of the killer. Impressed with it so far. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294189...

Re: Rofi - window switcher, run dialog and dmenu replacement

I also didn't see why I should use it over dmenu, but after I started using this script I kind of like it more. The script is handy for combining a number of things, choosing apps to run like regular dmenu running external scripts running other rofi scripts Anyway I cant remember where I got it!! bu...

Re: TV series

Yeah its fun, but you also have to laugh at some of the thinking behind it. I mean even if they are not aware these super androids have consciousness, they do know they feel pain, therefore it's not ok to do what they do to them!

Re: TV series

Watching the series Westworld, had watched the film long time ago so thought I would try the TV series, so far they are doing a good job, of course it slower moving as they have more than 1hour 20mins to narrate a plot. Also enjoying Goliath, the usual small layer against the big guys, but very well...

Re: best way to make images smaller?

ok messed with imagemagick but found it fiddly, ended up using a combo for resizing dimensions and optimizing for smaller file size I use imagemagick combined with cjpeg, so I put this in my bash funcitons resizeand() { convert -resize 50% "$1" TGA:- | cjpeg -outfile cjpeg-compressandresiz...

Re: best way to make images smaller?

Re: best way to make images smaller?

I just found it interesting that even with a -quality setting of say 60 the result was still a larger size than some of the online resizers and I couldn't see any difference in how it looked.
Edit, I read you link, it was epic!

best way to make images smaller?

If you were sending photos by email or making pictures smaller for posting on the web how do you make them small but keep reasonable qual? I just tried imagemagick with the command convert test.jpg -resize 50% half_test.jpg and then took the same photo but uploaded it to tinypng.com and the site pro...

Re: URxvt Config

How do you over-ride (only temporarily) the default colours you have set in .Xresources ?
If I try to open urxvt with a yellow background ie
urxvt -bg yellow
when it opens I see a quick flash of yellow but then it goes to black as set in .Xresources

adblock-hosts script

I will just link to it
http://vsido.org/index.php?topic=757.0
I was using a more complicated setup but have switched to this, I like it simple.
It just updates your hosts file for you to block nasties and adverts.

Re: tartwm

the readme says: A grid-based floating window utility with collision detection and tags. After enjoying the pleasures of other, more full-featured window managers for some time (eg. openbox), I've realised it would be more useful to have tartwm able to run alongside such a window manager. The more p...

no window manager section?

Seems like there is no window manager section where people share configs ideas etc for various wm's. I am a little surprised by that with this being a BBQ site with versions based on various wms. Maybe I've overlooked it somehow.

Not one for introducing myself normally but I see that it's expected here. Just an old fart who was less than impressed with windows and decided on a whim to give linux a weeks trial abt 2 years ago. I have never used windows since! at least not on my machine. I do help a friend who is even more anc...
