Wait, I could make a spin from No X release!

I want to create my spin. So how do I start? I can't find a base release.
Someone please slap me in the face and point on release if that's really simple.

I've just tried BBQ Cream. What I can say that i3 is good.
I'm a user of elementary OS. (but I have used Arch and Ubuntu)
