Nice! I've enjoyed using jwm before, feels like the ultimate light wm to me.

Re: Gstreamer fails to load in Xfburn
Installed gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly...and nothing has changed. That is, I still get the same warning when opening Xfburn, and it won't convert mp3 to cda.

Re: Gstreamer fails to load in Xfburn
It will burn disks as-is, but it cannot do the mp3 to audio cd conversion. Which is what I was trying to do today. Not something I do often, but still, it should be a rather simple task.

Gstreamer fails to load in Xfburn
Whenever I open Xfburn, before the app window ever opens, I get a warning box: Failed to initialize gstreamer transcoder: An error occurred setting gstreamer up for transcoding (falling back to basic implementation) Why is this? I want to burn an audio CD from some MP3 files, and Xfburn can't to tha...

Re: Linksys/Netgear routers with backdoor
Whoa! My router is on the "Backdoor confirmed" list. Guess I need to go look for non-OEM firmware, what's best for Linksys?

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
Mostly picked up from online auctions, craigslist and the market place on thinkpads.com forum. I really, really, have too many, but every time I bring myself to sell one of them, I end up buying two more. My first ever laptop was the 770 which I used for years, and it got me addicted to ThinkPads, t...

Re: Absinth
I have commented the wins supports line out on Absinthe to make it the same as Solyanka, and now I can open some of the files on the servers. A couple of them won't open, and on trying to unmount I get the error: "Failed to eject...One or more applications are keeping the volume busy." It'...

Re: Absinth
Running diff -J <etc.> gives error: invalid option -J Doing it without the -J option just didn't do anything. After a quick visual comparison of the two smb.conf files, the only diff I see is: <Solyanka> # WINS Support - Tells the NMBD component of Samba to enable its WINS Server # wins support = no...

Re: Absinth
Thanks pidsley, this is the kind of guidance I need. smbclient -L <hostname> -U% returns: Domain=[<my_domain_name>] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Error returning browse lists: NT_STATUS_DENIED Domain=[<my_domain_name>] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Also list...

Re: Absinth
Yes, pretty much correct. I can browse Samba shares in Thunar, and copy files from the Samba server and paste them to a directory on Absinthe, then work with them from there. I just don't yet understand Absinthe doesn't allow me to work with those files directly off the server, when Solyanka (and ev...

Re: Absinth
So I've searched this forum, and several others. Searched the web and read articles 'till my eyes hurt, but have yet to find out how one mounts a network share in the terminal. Oh, I've found several "how-to" mount shares posts, but so far I have not found one that works for me. I'm gettin...

Re: Absinth
OK...thanks for all the helpful comments. I have to leave to work in a few minutes, but I'll try some stuff out later this evening, and let you all know how I get along. I do all my mounting manually and through CLI...And to emphasize what rho says again, you will also see the error listed out throu...

Re: Absinth
sshfs is installed? Well, it wasn't (thought it was), but now it is, and still behaves the same. We start with startx and the .xinitrc ending with the line: exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session startxfce4 You lost me there... have you considered a permission issue? dunno where it ...

Re: Absinth
"It" is the local application, either text editor, photo viewer or pdf viewer, etc. For example, I've been using a simple .txt file on the servers as a test. I can browse the directories in Thunar to where this file is located, double click the file to open it, a text editor automatically ...

Re: Absinth
Wanted to update you guys on this situation...it still doesn't make much sense to me. Since machinebacon said Mate works better at this, I've installed BBQ with Mate DE, LMDE (Mate) and ElementaryOS (Gnome shell) on the same laptop, just for comparison. I also run another Xubuntu laptop, and it does...

Re: Absinth
Thanks again! That did it. I already had smb.conf configured, but had to put the Windows server's IP address in /etc/hosts. I've never had to do that before with any other distro, not even other BBQ releases that feature a different DE, or others that have full XFCE. Curious whether there is somethi...

Re: Absinth
Good guess Baconator , 'cause I did not have those gvfs/cifs packages installed. Now I do, and we are making progress. Now I'm getting: "Failed to retrieve share list from server: Connection timed out." I've worked through that before but don't remember the solution. Will have to wait unti...

Re: Absinth
Greetings Guys! Installed Absinthe a few days ago, and I'm really impressed with how fast it is on my old X40 ThinkPad. I'm having some trouble browsing Windows shares in Thunar, however. So far I've installed Samba, and configured smb.conf like I usually do on other distros, but I'm still getting t...

Someone is bound to care...I've seen several asking how to make it fit a CD because the boxes don't have DVD drives and can't boot from a USB drive. I may have a system or two like that...
