Re: Forums database
Thanks, machinebacon It looks great and it's nice to have a wide-screen layout.

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
^ I think it's a good combination of images though. 486 for those who need it. 686 non-PAE, and the PAE available for download. Covers all possible variations.

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
My experience with the 486 kernel on a quad-core was that it only used one of the cores...? top/htop only showed one core ...
Edit: Sorry -- I re-read your post and I see that you are agreeing that the 486 is not recommended for machines with more than one CPU/core.

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
But 486 is not recommended for dual- or quad-core machines.

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
Ok. So the 486 version is for older hardware and the 686 for newer hardware. If I have more than 4GB of RAM, I should install the PAE kernel. So for a netbook with 1GB RAM, I should just use the 686 non-PAE kernel?

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
Created bootable USB with dd and it worked fine; the listed md5sum must be incorrect.
Why was the non-PAE 686 kernel selected as the default for this release? For greater compatability? Is that necessary if there is also a 486 version availalble?

Re: Problems with download (Saltimbocca) i686
Downloaded Saltimbocca i686 non-PAE.
md5sum is 4fd27a596e026c5bc262f762714716bb as reported by the OP, but the sum on the download page is 64237e45669b8556add04a0e5f5c2db2.
Will dd to USB soon.
