Re: Upgrade to newest Mate 1.8

Relevance?
Compiz seems to be running pretty well under Mate 1.8 - nothing much broken that I am seeing.

Re: Upgrade to newest Mate 1.8

FWIW, (and as I think mentioned elsewhere) I am beta testing Makulu Linux Mate. It is a debian testing 'distro' based on Mate 1.8 with Compiz and enough bling/bloat to satisfy/repel anyone. It is running pretty well and I will happily use it on my main work machine when it is done. [added] It also h...

Re: Mate, show me your screenshot!

I am beta testing the soon to be released Makulu Linux Mate version. It is fully blinged-up with compiz etc, and really very pleasant to use. I installed it on my Advent Netbook, which is the slowest PC I have, and it installed in 216M and ran sweet as a nut. Bit of a shocker TBH, I had been avoidin...

Re: Cool stuff in your city/town/blip on the map

The ones I checked had 'child' seats but no doubt these could be fairly easily replaced with something more substantial.

A minor problem when compared with the problem of convincing the missus to let me buy one :(

Re: Cool stuff in your city/town/blip on the map

I want one of those bakfiets things. they are cool! Hell yeah. Been researching them already. Far too windy and hilly round here, so I would need a pedal assist electric motor model, and would need to customise the 'cart' bit so that I can transport my non-cycling wife in it. Realistically, she wou...

Re: Cool stuff in your city/town/blip on the map

yeah - ditto in the UK - some lip service paid to cycle routes, but whilst it is 'getting better', you are still taking your life in your hands trying to cycle in cities here.

When we were house hunting for our current house, the presence of decent cycle paths here was a major plus.

Scariest canal boat trip one can take - a 200+year old, 125ft high, VERY narrow acqueduct.

The guitarist, Wilko Johnson (my TOTAL hero) is still touring despite having terminal cancer.

Re: Your preferred text editor and terminal?

No offence taken here - however, I do reserve the right to take offence in the future, its probably best we have separate forums for pro-mouses/anti-mouses - its the only way.

Otherwise we risk this kind of thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZGkYW4b5I0

Re: Your preferred text editor and terminal?

@elixir

I don't believe you - I think you are all closet mouse-ists - you probably use the WM just to minimise mouse-ish activities.

... also, I bet many of you have also said 'some of my best friends are mouses' at some stage.

Re: 4/5/6/7/12 string thread

LOL - we know our limits - we are not called 'The Old Scrotes' for nothing :) I am 'young scrote', being only 55. The bass player on that clip is in his seventies. Due to age taking it's toll, we can't play anything without the song sheets in front of us. We were a 5 piece, 3 guitars, mandolin and b...

Re: 4/5/6/7/12 string thread

BTW - love the basses - I started off on bass, but I was shit.

I have little titchy hands and no wrist bend - hence the mandolin :)

We played for the local radio charity show.

We are not a serious group - just a bunch of 'old scrotes' who need an excuse to get out of the house every now and then.

Re: 4/5/6/7/12 string thread

I have a Thomas Buchanan mandolin, a Paul Hathaway Octave Mandolin, an Epiphone Mandobird (Electric) ... and best (and cheapest) of all, a Vintage Resonator Mandolin ...... http://i1258.photobucket.com/albums/ii527/cbakewell/resonator-in-action_zpsc442febb.jpg ..... which I am totally in love with. ...
