Re: At the tobacconist

Whenever I light up a stogie, I prefer Partagas, but a lot of hondourans are much cheaper and just as good.

Re: Abandonware OS!

I just took OpenIndiana for a spin after you spoke about it on IRC. I'm really digging this. I just need to get into compiling some things from source (emacs), and get to business.

Edit: Now with emacs.

Re: Pipe thread

I've filled a Stanwell that I think qualifies as a 1/4 bent rusticated apple. It's a pipe at any rate, with some Orlik Dark Kentucky. If I remember correctly it used to be called Dark Strong Kentucky. I'm guessing the "strong" moniker no longer applies given the punch of some of the newer ...

Re: How fast can you type?

That site is taking the piss a bit, though. No use of punctuation, special characters or numbers as would be included in a proper typing test. But hey, it's a great confidence booster :)

Around 85-95wpm depending on the language. Typing German slows me right down to the lower 70s. Fuck umlauts.

Re: Going a bit retro

A cross-post well worth it. These past few weeks have made me realize that there are a hell of a lot more BBS's out there than I thought. Most of them don't show up on any lists. You only really find them by visiting other boards or reading FDN (FidoNet) type networks.

Re: Pipe thread

A Royal Danish model 53 smooth billiard. The Royal Danish brand is a part of the Stanwell household. I don't know if Royal Danish is still around, but Stanwell used to put this brand on pipes that didn't clear the QA for the main Stanwell lines. Yet more Golden Sliced in this one. This pouch is almo...

Going a bit retro

It's always healthy to remember where we all came from. There was a time where getting a hold of other people was a hassle. Wanted to talk to the guy you met in Greece last summer, well you couldn't just add him on facebook, or skype him. No, you had to write him a letter, or pay obscene telephone r...

Re: Pipe thread

I do like the rusticated finish, but I'm just as happy with a smooth finish. As long as they smoke well, it's all good. As far as Danish pipes go, it's just what I've had available to me. I do have a bunch from Peterson, Kaywoodie, Savinelli and a few others, but I think the majority are Stanwells f...

Re: Pipe thread

Awesome stuff lads. It's great to see a little briar popping up. Here's a W. Ø. Larsen "Double Black" from 2002 that's currently getting the golden sliced treatment. A chubby little thing with a medium sized bowl that I've found works wonderfully well with lightly rubbed or even just folde...

Pipe thread

There's a number of pipe smokers around the grill, so why not show off your puffers and what you've been stuffing them with. I'm starting the day with a Stanwell year pipe from 1996. The stuffing is my trusty Orlik Golden Sliced. The zippo in the shot is engraved with the ASP (alt.smokers.pipes) logo.

I use a dented up zippo pipe lighter I've had for .. 20 years or so. I've had a bunch of different lighters through the years, but the zippo just keeps going.

Re: ✞ Obituary ✞

I honestly don't think there's a single Dane over the age of 30 that hasn't seen Bud and Terence. Their films have been on TV repeatedly since the 70s. During the years of working in my fathers' video renting stores, I remember the Bud and Terence films being among the few we had to replace because ...

I know both sides have a lot of things to be ashamed of right now, and apparently nobody is interested in regaining stability and moving forward with the outcome of the vote. Instead they spend time bickering and humouring the re-vote nonsense. Nigel Farage being smug at the EU meeting didn't help t...
