Re: bones

Well, I guess it's true what they say. Once you go Slack, you never go back. Or something.

Re: What are you actually running for daily/primary usage?

Though there is one DE that is modern, shiny and whatnot but flies on anything these days. It is Plasma but I just get overwhelmed by it very fast and it still crashes where nobody expects it. Bones is right. In most cases DEs are like a plague. I'm actually surprised how lean Plasma5 is these days...

Re: What are you actually running for daily/primary usage?

These days it's Gentoo with fvwm for me. Super minimal. You guys ruined DEs for me, hahaha. Using sylpheed for mail, palemoon for web, various tui shit for other things. Screenshot over there in my scrot zone.

Re: bones

I've been strangely satisfied with Gentoo, really. I think I came back to it because I had two (or was it three?) failed attempts to install it, previously, and stubbornly didn't want to leave it at that. I'm really happy with the results on the lappy, it's very lean and fast with fvwm, and everythi...

Re: bones

Somehow, everything's coming up Gentoo for me these days. Acquired a new ThinkPad T61 recently, and this happened:

And also a Dell Optiplex 980 desktop, and this happened:

I like it a lot. Blast from the past using Gnome 2! After I swap out the CD drive for a DVD drive, however, I will put OpenIndiana 2017.10.31 on the same box.

Starting tonight on Netflix + Altered Carbon - Set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored, a prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom. Re: Favorite browser

There's also neXT-browser https://next-browser.github.io/ I've been giving this one a try on the mac. It has promise, but right now it's painfully slow. Maybe I should try it on linux to compare. Otherwise I've been really happy with FF Quantum. Still keeping qutebrowser around, too; it seems to be...

Re: bones

bacon, it has been doing rather well. We had a stellar holiday season this year, even better than previous years. Alas, we still can't quit the day jobs just yet. We have to figure out how to sustain that kind of sales year-round, in order to do that. We'll get there one day!

Yes, it is May, so my seasonal allergies (hayfever) are kicking in as well. Typically lasts until about the first or second week of July. The Willamette Valley is the grass seed capitol of the world, so it can be hell for hayfever here. Looks like a great weekend ahead, though. Sunshine and low 80s°...

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads

Received the T420 yesterday. Booted it up just fine, poked around Win 7 for a bit, discovered that the DVD drive doesn't work. No big deal, install from thumb drive. Rebooted, and Win 7 decided to auto-update itself, which resulted in Win 7 being hosed. Haha, oh yeah, there's a reason I don't use Wi...
