Re: BOOK! (Hardcopy edition)

Just finished Awaiting God by Simone Weil, and it was absolutely incredible, and I am saying this as a man who is not that hot on Christianity (but hey, Kierkegaard blasted me away too, so what do I know about religion anyway?) Now I don't know, I ordered Pensées by Blaise Pascal and Critique of Jud...

Re: /dev/null

I remember giving it a try but I felt like it was taking the fun away from Arch. I know the same can be said with Ubuntu and Debian, but at the time I was thinking "Arch is super cool, why should I be spoon fed when I can show off my Arch skills to the homies!?".

Re: Movies, Flicks, Films, Videos, cinematography

Last night I was a bit tired and really couldn't focus on the books. I wanted something comfy, just to chill, so I put on Visconti's The Leopard , one of my favourite Italian films. Knowing it well, I thought "who cares about the 3 hours, I can fall asleep without offending the great Luchino". It tu...

Re: Movies, Flicks, Films, Videos, cinematography

On a different note (pun intended), I watched Once and Blinded by the Light. Both films deal with the difference music makes in one's life, the first dealing with the subject in a much more convincing way. If you like Springsteen, though, the second one will be your cup of tea no matter what.

^ The fact that it has Tom Bombadil in it makes it a better rendition than Jackson's already.

Re: BOOK! (Hardcopy edition)

^ I watched it yesterday. It's almost entirely dedicated to the book I posted above, so you may want to read that first. The film is interesting, but I would not recommend it to someone not accustomed to Arendt's work.

^ Great author. I have not read this book yet but I have a whole collection of Arendt's work.
It's a good book indeed, but I prefer Simone Weil and Etty Hillesum if I had to pick like-minded thinkers. Anyway, I am going to watch Margarethe von Trotta's film about Arendt soon.

Re: Emacs tips and tricks

I am not tinkering with my configuration much these days (what a liar), but one package that has made things simpler and better for me is this: https://github.com/oantolin/orderless Without pulling in heavy dependencies such as Helm or Ivy, this is the perfect way to move around into my project and ...

Opera

I am ignorant as an armchair when it comes to opera, and yeah I know I am Italian and plenty of the greats are from here. From reasons totally unrelated to music, I started with Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. To be more precise, from Stabat Mater . This is not the version I have, but should give you a...

For all the bad things I always say about contemporary Italian cinema, Vincere really did manage to shut me up. Highly recommended.

Re: Movies, Flicks, Films, Videos, cinematography

^ Let me expand on that. I found it his most poetic work. It's a film which encompasses all of its favourite themes but instead of using a character as a Platonic idea (like Alice in all the Resident Evils, and the fifth one especially) it goes the Melville way. Not so much as man trying to conquer ...

Pompeii's my favourite one from Anderson, but that's because I love tragic love stories.
