Re: App Store

I discovered Organic Maps and it seems to play nice as well. That looks cool and has a free iOS version. @Slobby: I do not use Reddit as a registered user either and it is a pain to browse on a phone. Might try out that client. I mean Reddit is a shit show, but sometimes it is nice to have a look a...

Re: /dev/null

@Gutterslob: Thank you for your thorough explanation. Now I get it. Basically on my Android, that is now used as some kind of remote or Newpipe music radio for the kitchen, I only use F-Droid apps and as it is not used anymore as a phone, most of the apps were dropped on it and if not in use, the ph...

Re: /dev/null

This thread turned into being super interesting. One thing I will never use my smartphone for and never did and I hope it will stay that way, is online banking. My better half e.g. must use it with her Spanish bank account, there is no way she could manage it outside Spain. It is a fucked up bank an...

Re: Random Internet Thread

^ Exactly and he was (?) working for Canonical. Ignorant blog post like usual. They are all the same. I could provide more examples but I won't. Just let me use my outdated distribution model that you all despise so much and kiss my middle finger. I hope someday, there will come a future where I can...

Re: What are you actually running for daily/primary usage?

Funny, I really dig my iPhone. Finally a phone that just works without me doing anything with it but I am not a heavy phone user anyway. Though I still hate smartphones and I use them almost exclusively on the road, especially mountain biking.

Re: What are you actually running for daily/primary usage?

Here you are. I was just mentioning you in another post. So the Alienware laptop is already news of yesteryear.

I went to the dark side this year, too, on my phone. It is an iPhone SE that I bought refurbished, but in premium quality. Who knows, maybe once you get into that ecosystem...

Re: Distros of interest

At least I am still using Debian and do not have to fight with Ubuntu. :) As a matter of fact, I never installed Ubuntu anymore since the BBQ or even earlier, at least not on my machines. Though I toyed with some others like Fedora and Slackware but always come back to my old used pair of socks, a b...

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff

Thank you again Gutterslob. I also very much prefer Apt-X on Android and I can remember that was the reason why went with that Audio Technica model without app and EQ stuff, anyway not necessary with high quality source material. While the focus is still more on listening to music or podcasts on the...

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff

Oh boy, you pretty much discouraged me and I already was before. :) I know you can buy better ones for more bucks but we already own good ones and no app required as mentioned in my post and she wanted "less" quality for outside, if they fall or whatever. I fear the same without using the ...

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff

I am trying to find some nice wireless in-ears for my better half. She has already great ones but only for use at home and they are Bluetooth headphones by Audio Technica. Now she wants something smaller for outside use and I have no clue where to begin because Bluetooth headphones, especially in-ea...

Re: How do you email?

Gutterslob you are spot-on, also about Proton. Like I said, I "trust" them but that can always change. And you said it: People forget the only thing they're doing is shifting trust from their ISP/telco to the VPN provider. That is why some will recommend Tor but then again you have to know...

Re: How do you email?

@ivanovnegro; How is the ProtonVPN service working out for you? I am quite happy and I am on the free tier. I do not use it that much so it is sufficient. It does everything that says on the tin apart from unblocking foreign Netflix etc as you would need a paid account for that and the speed is tot...

Re: How do you email?

You should definitely switch away from Gmail. I did so in 2019 to ProtonMail (paid account) that also comes with a VPN service that I use and I have a Disroot account (free) that I use with PGP encryption in Thunderbird. ProtonMail uses a bridge for Thunderbird. ProtonMail is for work and I do trust...

Wow. KDE was the least popular here. Now I would definitely put Gnome on my "do not touch it ever again"-list.
