Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff

I've had the x220 for a while now and it's great. I've disabled the touchpad in favor of the nub. Installed a hacked bios to put an atheros wifi card in. I'll eventually put coreboot on it. Maybe

Re: BOOK! (Hardcopy edition)

I found The Silmarillion easier to read than LoTR, personally. I love LoTR, but I could do without the two page description of the hill they just passed by and what kind of cheese they snacked on. I have the first three books in the Dune series and haven't read them. Read most of Snow Crash before I...

Re: Distros of interest

Pur looks pretty interesting. I'll probably check it out again in a few months to see how things are progressing. I hope it gains traction. I'm tempted to put Void on my new Raspberry Pi 3.

Re: If not Debian...

I have a few spare partitions on my laptops. I was considering putting FreeBSD on my old desktop to see if it fits me. I'm not really experienced with CRUX, either, but I really like the philosophy and way of doing things. I think I'm gonna take the plunge this weekend.

Re: If not Debian...

I'd go with either Slack, BSD, or CRUX. Just for a change of pace. I think a noX CRUX with all the bbq goodies would be pretty sweet. Same with Slack. I've been tempted to try BSD for ages, but still haven't gotten around to it.

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads

It might be a while before I do it because I don't have the clip thingy that attaches to the bios chip. I'm putting libreboot on the R400 first because the processes are pretty similar and I don't have nearly as much money invested in the R400. I'll definitely post updates whenever I get around to it.

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads

Just got an R400 for $21 without a hard drive. This makes my third thinkpad, along with my modified x220 and my t41, which is pretty much only useful for noX bbq. I've fallen in love with the x220 now that I've upgraded it to the fullest extent I'm able at the moment. Upgraded with modded bios to re...

I got my x220 with 320gb hd and 4gb RAM and the dock for $199. That's not too bad

Re: Advice

Thanks guys for all your advice. Pidsley, I used to actually use Arch for a good bit while I was in school. I installed the 2009.08 version on an external hard drive and used it as a toy and a rescue system. I learned more about linux doing that than anything since. I had to stop using linux for a w...

Advice

Hi all. I recently got around to installing both adipositas and professional on my Thinkpad, and chose professional because I wanted to start from scratch. I have a few books on linux and figured a text only install would keep me from getting distracted. I'm actually posting this from w3m right now,...

Re: TV series

I've recently started watching Dark Matter and The Bastard Executioner. Both pretty good. I also like Dr. Who, Supernatural, Family Guy, Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, Attack on Titan (my fiance recently got me into anime), Wet Hot American Summer, Daredevil (the Netflix show, obviously not the movi...

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads

I am now the proud owner of an IBM Thinkpad T41. Just got it in the mail and have been playing with it all day. Just set up an antiX persistent usb stick for it, and plan on installing a bbq flavor on the hd. Haven't decided which one yet. I really like smoothie, but I'm pondering on whether to inst...

That's really good, actually. Very "nuanced" I guess you would call it. I like it

Favorite song

I know this is a tough question for many people, but do you have an all-time favorite song? Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden is mine, mainly because of Steve Harris on bass. Best bass player ever in my opinion.

Don't know if this counts as stoner rock, but Witchcraft is pretty good

Rogue Class Linux

Just randomly searching on the internet yielded this oddity. http://rogueclass.org/ Don't know if any of you are into roguelikes, but it looks interesting. From what I can see, I don't like the installer. It doesn't support dual-booting and the only way to install is to wipe a disk. Interesting, non...

Re: been lurking for a while

I've also thought of trying Source Mage. I like obscure things, I guess. I'm not afraid of building my own kernel, and I'm fairly technically inclined, so the manual should be enough when I get a chance to install CRUX. I might check out the IRC anyway, and the bbq's while I'm at it. Thanks again.
