Re: mwm (motif)

I never saw CDE before. I never bothered with it. I like it. I'm going to try and get it running and see how it goes.

Re: /dev/null

I just about shat my pants. This is the weirdest thing I've seen this week, and I see a lot of weird things.
I probably would have been a STRONG OS/2 user had I been a part of that era.

Re: Random Internet Thread

This image has been floating around the interwebs recently, and I figured I'd share it. I loved it so much I uploaded it to my server to make sure it will not be lost.

@Wux: I'm a nightowl. I often wake up at anywhere from 2PM to 6PM and I'm up for 20 hours. Daylight is not always an option.

Re: show us your iron

The late Fuzzy. Yes, he was an old crotchitty cat, but damn, sweetest thing that ever lived. Was older than me when he died. I was 16.
Kinda cat that was so sweet, you forgave him for pissing all over your shoes whenever you turned your back.

Re: show us your iron

Here are my machines. The servers, netbook, oldest functioning laptop, and my toughbook which despite it's slowness, still gets use from me. The main machine is a Dell Optiplex 755 with a Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz and 4GB of RAM, but I don't know how to get a good pic of that, so have a crappy one instead....

Re: howm

@harveyhunt: link me your source. EDIT: Found it. Harvey, I read a good portion, and this code is really, really good. I'm serious. It's beautiful. Well thought out, well optimized, bit shift and AND combinations that make my eyes hurt, it's glorious. I do hate the indentation but that's because I l...

I might be helpful in sterilizing your code and making it standards-compliant. I'm a C language-lawyer. Let me know if this is something you want.

Re: Which DE/WM do you like least? ;)

GNOME 3 easily. I liked GNOME 2 a LOT, and then comes along GNOME shell and mutilates it. I was in shock, horror, and disbelief that they actually RELEASED that nightmare. Fortunately, I found a permanent home in XFCE 4. I like it better than MATE now. I just like a full featured desktop with a powe...

Re: testdisk

I love testdisk/photorec. My installer which has barely anything else at all still manages to have testdisk and photorec, they're that useful. Right up there on my list with GNU parted, the best partitioner of all time.

Re: Epoch Init System

If you are using an initrd/initramfs, those often mount /proc, /sys, /dev/pts etc for you. You can remove whatever ones it's complaining about safely. As far as eudev, I never got it to work right, period. I use udev 182 which works great. It's the last version before systemd ate udev. The eudev mig...

Now this seems rather nice actually. I might find a use for this the next time I build a 100MB Xorg/busybox distro.

Re: Favorite file manager

CLI: coreutils. GNU coreutils because I love the -a switch to cp and it's not even there (even functionality) on all implementations outside of coreutils. Busybox has it though. GUI: Thunar. I'm probably the only one here who likes GTK2 stuff. GTK3 is garbage, but I love the feel and the way things ...

Re: Favorite browser

I'm just a boring Firefox user. It's not the best browser ever, but it's what I've got. I hate Firefox Australis but eventually just said meh. I liked Opera when they used Presto. If they were FOSS I would have been using them exclusively, but not when they went away from Presto. I have a grudge on ...
