getmp3
This is rather silly, but I've got an xterm open 24/7 that only serves one purpose.... opt1k@frey:~/Documents/music$ cat `which getmp3` #!/bin/bash function main { echo -n "CONVERT TO MP3 URL> " read link youtube-dl -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 "$link" main } main opt1...

Re: Messenger for desktop
There is a hangouts extension for firefox as well. IT seems easier to just log in to gmail or use a phone. dkeg: are you suggesting that it is possible to still do google instant messanging through pidgin? I might install this later. I also use hangouts for google voice sms, It might be nice to use ...

Re: Messenger for desktop
So its official. I do not advise the messenger to anyone. It got to 640mb of ram. Once I closed it the I have no idea what happend, disk IO went off the charts, and the system became unusable, a restart was required. Oh - Em - Gee - Is that... gulp... face..book messenger? still - I'm a hangouts fan...

Re: KVM? Virtualization? Spinoff idea?
Absolutely. By far the easiest Windows upgrade to a new machine occurred when I moved from an i5 to i7 Dell and went from 8 GB ram to 32 GB. All I did was install Linux on the new machine (the old one had Linux, too) and copy over the Windows virtual machine. Presto new hardware, new more ram, no n...

Messenger for desktop
Good idea, bad implementation... 300MB memory heap for a messenger..uses "a" web browser...to implement itself. It appears to come with an implementation of the chrome browser. Apparently it also creates an open TCP socket for this? Even though its on the local loopback interface, it seems...

Re: Guess this one...
It went on a device called a Z2 I have videos of it where I turned it into a portable emulator, gaming system, and web device. There was a lot of cross compiling with qemu for it. I ended up getting a small contract to retrofit a few of them into a custom case and create a very small debian build to...

5. Install icedtea (Java) sudo apt-get install -y icedtea-plugin No way! :D Sadly there are still sites that require this abomination. Some Cisco web device management software requires it unfortunately. I also found out the hard way that Google blocked java from their development release of Chromi...
