Re: bash prompts

Oh yes, I do agree. My biggest problem, when I am trying to learn...well...anything, is that I have no real goal to work towards. I do want to learn bash scripting, but I am not quite authistic enough to just read the book of bash, and know it all. I do need small projects to tinker with. Thanks for...

Re: Maths.

Haha, that was pretty cool, in its own way.
I just have half a brain, which is unable to process math, so I don't have much to say.

I just had to say it was cool, and remember that in English "I"as in "me" (in this case you) is capitalized

Re: bash prompts

I would think a scripting guru could do that (meaning not me at the moment, even if I will try) But why would you want to have the location your terminal "is at" up there all the time? what if you have more terminals open? As it is, you see where the focused terminal is. I dunno if it woul...

Yea, I see the problem there...
I will add a small comment about it, if anyone wants to try it, in the post.

Re: bash prompts

Right, it does only show a ">" in the terminal window.
This gives me plenty of space to type stuff, even on a little netbook.
The name, and location goes in the top bar of the terminal.
Or as in my case, using dwm, it goes in the...eh..top bar of the wm.

Re: bash prompts

This is not anything fancy, but it is my favorite ps1 line:

Code: Select all

PS1="\[\e]2;\u@\H \w\a\e[32;1m\]>\[\e[0m\] "
This will only work properly if your terminal or window manager has an
"information area" like a toolbar, or so.
If it does not, you won't know where you are!

Nah, I never had a hippie bus. I suspect it is an -89 grand voyager, and a peugeot 306. But I can't scroll in enough to see wtf you are talking about
