If you like using leafpad, and terminator... use that! I would try an editor that works if your x does not, just in case... To be honest... I am not really sure what you mean by framing, lol. I see frames everywhere, at different times. But I do like hlwm. Yes, the colors are solarized, and the background, or wallpaper is just the solarized color. The only real change is the "outer" frame, and the tag indicator...
