I still use evilwm on my test boxes. If I had to choose a stacker it would be evilwm. It does everything I need.

Well... I dist-upgraded the main machine to Stretch. Went OK, but I seem to be missing a font or two for stupid GTK.
(edit) solved the font issue. It was a GTK3 config switch. I hate GTK3.

I dist-upgraded my NFS server from Wheezy to Stretch a while ago, and had no problems with that one, but it doesn't run X. I'm hoping the upgrade from Jessie to Stretch is easier.

OK one more thing to try. Run "xrandr" and note the default resolution. Run xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 640x480 Do you have a visible mouse pointer now? Run xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode <default you noted in step one> Is the mouse pointer visible now? If this doesn't work I'm out of ideas...
