Re: evilwm

I still use evilwm on my test boxes. If I had to choose a stacker it would be evilwm. It does everything I need.

Re: TV series

Looks like Humans is a remake of the Swedish "Real Humans" ("Äkta människor") : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2180271/

I have not seen either series, so I could be wrong.

Re: What's your uname?

Well... I dist-upgraded the main machine to Stretch. Went OK, but I seem to be missing a font or two for stupid GTK.

Code: Select all

Linux toybox 4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 (2018-05-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux
(edit) solved the font issue. It was a GTK3 config switch. I hate GTK3.

Re: What's your uname?

I dist-upgraded my NFS server from Wheezy to Stretch a while ago, and had no problems with that one, but it doesn't run X. I'm hoping the upgrade from Jessie to Stretch is easier.

Re: What's your uname?

dist-upgraded my Atom box from Wheezy to Stretch. Had a few issues, and had to add my user to the input group to make the keyboard and mouse work in X. I should probably upgrade my main machine from Jessie to Stretch before it gets too complicated, but Jessie is LTS until 2020. pidsley@gadget OS: De...

Has anyone else seen "Beware of Mr. Baker" ? I watched it on Netflix a while ago. Ginger Baker is a very strange man.

Re: What's your uname?

Did a dist-upgrade to move the NFS server (an ancient P4) from wheezy to stretch. Linux oldman 4.9.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 4.9.51-1 (2017-09-28) i686 GNU/Linux Took a little coaxing to complete the upgrade, and I was surprised to see that it did not force me to install systemd (left the init at sy...

Re: Dell Mini recommendations

OK one more thing to try. Run "xrandr" and note the default resolution. Run xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 640x480 Do you have a visible mouse pointer now? Run xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode <default you noted in step one> Is the mouse pointer visible now? If this doesn't work I'm out of ideas...

Code: Select all

lspci | curl -F 'sprunge=<-' http://sprunge.us
Then post the link.

(oh never mind -- pagebreak, I see the output now)

Off to walk the dog, but I will see if I can find anything later.

Re: Dell Mini recommendations

Does anything change if you try sudo xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr ? I really have no clue at this point. All the searches I have tried pointed at the input or video drivers. Sorry. (edit) I suppose you could try Debian Xfce or Lubuntu -- Lubuntu might have drivers and a kernel that would work bett...
