I have a couple of friends (U.S., West Coast) who wear them semi-regularly, and even lighter-weight skirts on guys aren't that strange (we hit 110F in the summer so you just wear something that'll stay cool-ish). I'd say try a kilt and see if you're comfortable in it.

I have to admit this thread title made my heart skip a beat also.

I hear rice is good for drying out dunked electronics but the starch might be an issue in itself. There's also silica desiccant pellets in bulk if you can get them in time enough.
