Re: Is it safe to dist-upgrade on qt4 stuff?

If everything is working, I would leave things alone -- this may be resolved by the next time you need to upgrade. In the future, swftech gives good advice to wait a day or two when you see a bug like this. When you get a bug notice like this, you can always go to the Debian web site and read the ac...

Re: Virgin (noX, i686) Release News

wux, wux, wux. why? you were lucky to get anything installed on the evectra, and then you had to change it? if you were that bored, you need a new hobby. try pipe smoking.

i'm installing virgin now, will report if i have any ideas.

Re: Boner (noX) Release News

Of course they keybindings of tmux are the defaults, to avoid confusion - the GNU Screen uses Ctrl-A, and I was tempted to change it in tmux too, had a discussion about it with a few people, and got told I should not override defaults. :) So, you are definitely right about the recommendation to swi...

Re: Boner (noX) Release News

FWIW, of course this works as server solution too (or maybe even best if we ignore the fact that it's Sid). As a quick start I recommend to get known of the basic keybindings for tmux: For lazy and easily confused people like me, it may be helpful to tweak the tmux bindings a little. I remapped the...

How-to: Invite conky to your threesome

So you like I3, but your threesome is just missing something, and you want conky on the bar to make it complete? Easily done. 1. create a simple one-line conkyrc. Open leafpad, and paste this into it: out_to_x no out_to_console yes update_interval 1.0 total_run_times 0 use_spacer none TEXT RAM:$memp...

Have you guys considered including the old favourite gkrellm? I can't speak for everyone, but the typical response to request like this is "it's easy to add yourself, and not everyone likes or uses it." Basic BBQ philosophy is lean installs, then user roasts his own (with a few notable ex...

Re: super n00b questions regarding i3 install

I just booted the live version, and my status bar looks the same. Give me a minute to troubleshoot some stuff. (edit) I'm sure bacon will have more to say about this, but until he gets back, at least on my machine the i3 config file does not have the startup lines he's talking about. You can add the...

Don't know. I'm downloading threesome right now, will take a look later.

I posted that because he asked about conky.

Re: problem loading livecd

When it gets to that point (where it appears to hang), press <enter>. You should then get a login prompt.

LiveCD of which version? Saltimbocca, Escargot, 486, 686, amd64 ?

Saltimbocca 486 Live systemd issues

I downloaded the 486 iso, checked the md5sum, and used dd to copy it to a USB stick. It boots, but if I select any of the systemd options, it hangs at the step Starting notify audit system and update UMTP ... (This is past KMS, so it's not a graphics issue) It does this on two different machines. If...
