Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
sooo.... (edit: removed rant) installed libreboot on the x60 today and it's running fine. steps to reproduce: 1) get libreboot utils and the x60 rom (mirrors: https://libreboot.org/download.html#https) and untar them wget -c https://mirrors.peers.community/mirrors/libreboot/stable/20160907/libreboot...

Re: chromium won't allow extensions

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff
Okay I move these to the Thinkpad section. Got the X60 today and it's excellent. Only 2GB RAM and a 24GB SSD in it, but it boots straight into Emacs without WM. It does already have an Atheros instead of the Broadcom, and Intel onboard gfx, so I can coreboot or libreboot it tonight. So far, it's a j...

chromium won't allow extensions
Ridiculous.
Briefly: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=851692
Or start with "--enable-remote-extensions"

Re: Spacemacs - Emacs? Vim? Why not both?
You won't believe it, but I just made a Spacemacs remix on Tuesday which I am test-driving on different PCs before I upload it. * Personally, I am not a big fan of Spacemacs (95% of the things featured I will never use, and those which I regularly use are not featured lol), but I understand why ther...

Oh yes, advices: - remove zeitgeist [1] and avahi-daemon [2] (if you don't need them) - also kick cups-* (if you never print) - remove bluez and bluetooth-whatever (of course, if you never use bluetooth) - remove modem-manager [3] - kick whoopsie, apparmor and ufw [4] - as root, echo "vm.swappi...

Re: Mate, show me your screenshot!
Yeah, good default theme in Ubuntu Mate (actually, I did really install it and I am writing from it now - of course I switched to spectrwm/XFCE4). My theme of choice, if I had one, is Numix Red. It's in the repos of 'Buntu, at least for YY.

^ if it's from Polska, it must be good. For a short moment I thought it has the texture of Solaris from Hungary [1]. Of course it's a different genre. The Polish friends do it well, I will listen to their full album this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhH...

Re: Cubic vs xyz?
Interesting point. Though, is there any notable difference in real life? sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_available_congestion_control shows what is available, usually there should be reno and cubic. sudo modprobe tcp_*TAB* shows tcp_ALGOs that can be loaded and sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=ALG...

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff
I guess it will be an X60 this time, because the x220 is a bit over my planned budget. Originally, I planned to put only GNU shit on it (GuixSD for kicks). The x220 would cost around 3x more than an X60 (incl. SSD), so for borking around like an idiot the X60 is a better choice :D

^^^ young people nowadays don't know what's good :D ^^ yes, same here, I only had the GT65 (IIRC that was the model number), had a yellowish-greenish tint for the text colour. I remember that games even had a "PRESS G FOR GREEN SCREEN" setting, which didn't make a big difference. ^ thanks ...

Re: Xresources/Xdefaults colors
So here is the original CPC color theme. Well, at least the one that comes with BASIC 1.x Usually, the CPC only sets the foreground, cursor and background colors, depending on video mode (modes 0 1 2) you had different palettes and maximum colors to choose from. There were 27 colors in the palette, ...

Thanks for the resurrect, I love these things :)
How is the X230? I am thinking about getting either an X60, X220 or X230. I heard good things about the battery life, is that true?

Re: machinebacon
let's see how long it takes until I have enough of it. It's an emulation of the old Amstrad CPC colors (nope, not true -- the foreground should be pure yellow, I forgot to set that correctly, nvm). Fonts are tamsym.
