kondor, I'm loving the Viv Savage "heavy duty" avatar. TIST is my favorite movie of all time.

Re: NOX: Adipositas (586) Release News

Exploring the live system on a rainy day. Impressive as always. I'm getting strange color glitches on the terminal characters in the framebuffer session. Don't know if its my equipment (crappy HP chromebook) or what.

Re: Electronic sounds thread

Fifty Foot Hose were a San Francisco band of the 1960s who fused jazz, psychedelic rock, and experimental electronic music. The electronic element was provided by custom-made theremin-like instruments. It's definitely dated, but still a nice sample of what 'electronic music' was like just on the cus...

Re: Abandonware OS!

An online emulator of my first computer: http://www.zx81stuff.org.uk/zx81/jtyone.html ZX81 was the British version; in the US it was marketed as the Timex Sinclair 1000. Membrane keyboard and 2K on-board ram. I had the 16k ram expansion pack, which allowed play of a side-scrolling shooting spaceship...

Re: Heya Evvabody

Zines! I remember those. I made a few cut-and-paste (like with actual paper and real sticky paste) dadaist-psychedelic collage photocopy flyers back in those days. Cool. I'm newly registered myself, but I'll say welcome anyway. (I remember dumpster-diving for food and stuff, too. But I can't say tha...

Re: EDC, gadgets and gear stuff

Besides the standard phone-keys-wallet, I carry a black (always black) North Face backpack that always contains one paper notepad and a collection of random pens and pencils, mostly from hotels, and a ziploc baggie with allergy and pain pills. Travel computer is an HP Chromebook 14 I spent US$50 on ...

if we're talking about 80s pop hits, we must have this one
(it was a huge deal in the US at least)

not a big hit -- not so much pop, either (more like punk) --
but one of the best by the same group:

No herbal excursion is complete without some classic GBV (Guided by Voices).

Their best album is _Bee Thousand_ (1994). Fire it up.

Re: Favorite album

Love's _Forever Changes_ is an all-time favorite, as mentioned in the elder brother thread.

Current favorite is Van Morrison's _Astral Weeks_ (1968). The title track is especially sublime:

No love for Jason?

Melancholy, morbid, moody funny animals fighting zombies, going into a time machine to kill Hitler, having coffee with Death. It's the best.

^^ mb: I've played with fbi and with green. Both do the full-screen thing. I've found that they work just fine for small, modern documents. That covers a lot of basic office work I have to do. Tried to install fbpdf a couple of times, but could never manage to do it. I work a lot with pdfs of mediev...

welcome. it's a great place to learn. I second the force-yourself-to-use-only-the-terminal-for-a-while exercise. Taught me a great deal. Errol Morris' _Gates of Heaven_ (1978). About the pet cemetary business. As funny and strange as it sounds. Bonus: disco-era California fashions and affects. Absolute gold.
