Not a hack, but still a little fix that anyone who uses zsh with emacs mode could find useful. When in tmux, C-a prefix conflicts with emacs mode shortcut for quickly going at the beginning of the line (a trick I'm used to in Emacs already). I got curious and did the same test as pidsley. Headphones, Miles Davis's "He Loved Him Madly" at 320kbit/s. I used moc, deadbeef and mpg123. Not much of a difference to my ears, but as others I'm no audio expert.
