Re: Still around and around and around...

@MB Mplayer1 in Wheezy did, but I've never been able to get Mplayer2 in Jessie to do it. VLC will in ASCII (before it crashes) and MPV just won't. I see that Mplayer1 made it back in Sid, so I'll have to load Adipositas onto my laptop and play with it there. I've got a couple of recent spins I've be...

Re: [SOLVED] usb automount in thunar as unprivileged user

I'm a pmount guy myself. Any time I need a file manager (which is never since I found the grill) I was using mc, but I've been playing around with vimfm and trying to figure that out.

Pointing and clicking to manage my files is something I don't see myself ever doing again.

Re: How not to find shit on the internet

^ that is some wild stuff. I didn't use it much, but when I did, I never saw anything like that.

I only heard about it from the libre software guys, and they said it was pretty good. I guess they've never tried to search porn. ;)

https://github.com/akhodakivskiy/VimFx This is a neat little addon that I mentioned in my chat topic, but I wanted to go into it a little more for those of us who have to use a graphical browser but still wanna use the keyboard. I found it by accident, and I really like it. Pentadactyl/vimperator ar...

Re: Still around and around and around...

I'm not very good at mysteries. Love to read 'em, don't have the patience to write 'em. Maybe what we need is a good serial novel like Dickens used to write, maybe in the blogs section. Every so often a new chapter that ends on a cliffhanger or something. Nothing too heavy, but with lots of running ...

How not to find shit on the internet

You want to make sure that no search you ever do results in anything you're looking for? Try this search engine: https://oscobo.co.uk/ It's claim to fame is that it's private, but that's only because no one can find anything they're looking for. I don't know what crawler it's using, but they need to...

Still around and around and around...

Hey, all Got settled into the new job (which is better than the old job) and have found some time to get back to this book that's in serious need of a final rewrite. Still on Debian, still on Jessie, still no major problems, fires, plagues or family deaths. I guess systemd isn't a horseman of the ap...

Re: Xresources/Xdefaults colors

Here's a monochrome theme I found online, and after using it a while, I gotta say it's pretty sharp. I dunno what to call it... I'll get back to you on that... ok, how about Malaise? ! Malaise ! *.background: #000000 ! *.foreground: #B0B0B0 *color0: #000000 *color1: #434343 *color2: #6B6B6B *color3:...

Re: fluxbox

Another scrot after some time playing when I should be writing. Grayscaled a retro-style wallpaper, added the Tin_Dark fluxbox style and found a monochrome Xcolor that looks sharp.

Here's the result.

Re: Happy Laundry

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. I had to work, but all in all, the universe was kind to me. NaNo this year was a flaming crash and burn. I'm going to forget it ever happened. Got my transfer, the new job will be half the distance from my house and a little better schedule. That will free up time...

Re: NaNoWriMo strikes again

Yeah, this will be tricky because I am sooooo not into the writing workflow lately. That and I have nooooo idea what I'm going to write about.

Nothing like camping out behind the eight-ball from the start. [sigh] Something will occur to me. I think... I hope...

NaNoWriMo strikes again

Hey, look at this! Almost twice in a month. I'm slowly getting back into the flow. Trying to transfer to a job closer to home, might pull that off in a couple more weeks. Gonna do another NaNo because I haven't written squat in longer than I care to remember and I need to get back into the habit of ...

dpkg --get-selections | wc -l

Debian Jessie, not too bad. I've got everything I need installed for now. Using text-mode apps for everything except browsing helps keep the package count down. That and I don't need hplip for my printer since it can use the foo2zjs driver.

OK, since this is the first day of NaNoWriMo, and since I'm doing it this year for the first time in a few, I needed a theme that would help me to write at super speed. I grayscaled a cool wallpaper I found, threw together a colorscheme from paletterx and now I'm off to the races. I think this is th...

You don't lock the door, I'm what you get

Hey grillers and grill-ettes. As you can see, I'm back. What a year. They moved my job 40 miles away, so the daily drive's a grind. Then the latest book needed finished, and while I have a second draft done, it still needs work. It's gonna be something special when I'm done, but that ain't now. Let'...

Re: Mechanical keyboard?

@kex No, the Ultimate-S is the model that came before that one. I don't need all the stuff on the newer keyboard, and there were some reviews that implied that build quality on the newer models had slipped a little.
