Re: Introduce yourself.

Good thread. It is great to know more about all of you. I did introduce myself 2 years ago but it was never proper. My name is Zac, but I go by the alias elixir. I currently live in the USA in Arizona. I am a 21 year old college student who is happily married to a wonderful, loving wife. I spend mos...

Beautiful looking laptop. A bit too expensive for me though.

@pidsley: Yes, I should be able to figure this out in the interview. I ultimately want to see what they do.

@bacon: BBQ logic is so pure, that it is infallible. :)

Re: Thoughts on C#

Thank you for all for the relating life stories, you all have given me something good to think about. just because Microsoft have made some shitty moves, doesn't mean they are incapable of doing good shit. they're still talented people, and the best you can do is learn from them. That is an excellen...

Re: man, I can't even install this

On Ubuntu, you'll be looking at the slide presentation, on Debian you'll still be waiting for a hardware check to setup your network, on Gentoo, you might be finished mounting it using System Rescue CD and think about downloading a stage 3 tarball, on Arch you'll still be ....... Now, ain't that th...

Re: Thoughts on C#

No harm taken. I thought it was silly of me. A programming language is simply a programming language, just as a language is a language. They all do the same thing. There is quite a bit of my opinionated self that is easing up. It is just that when it is all said and done, GNU/Linux will always be my...

Thoughts on C#

Hey grillers, I applied for a new job (software developer intern) recently and got an email saying they wanted to give me a phone interview. I have not had the phone interview yet, but I recently found out that they do most (or all) of their programming in C#. It is weird to think that I am uncomfor...

Re: What distros are you using?

^ And that is one of the few reasons why the LinuxBBQ community is so great.

Running Slackware full-time on my desktop and laptop. Just put Space Oddity on the laptop though and looking to switch to that full time. I forgot how beautiful auto-dependency resolution was.

I was indeed using the stock 585 kernel. I was completely unaware that you needed 686 kernel to use both kernels. You learn something new everyday. Thanks, pidsley!

CPU issue on "Space Oddity" [SOLVED]

Hello grillers, This seems to be an issue with the Debian Jessie kernel itself, but I thought I would inform you just in case this has happened to anyone else. The default Jessie kernel (and upgraded kernel) only recognizes one core on my dual core CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo). I had an extra siduction ke...

Re: IRC Channel Pledge! Join Us

That is interesting. When I worked my old IT job, I would try to connect to #linuxbbq from webchat and would receive the exact same error of my IP being banned. It freaked me out a little bit until I realized it was the webchat. I wonder what the issue is.

BTW, nice signature. I got a good laugh.

Re: TTY Machine

I chose the first option. I have a server that runs vanilla debian stable that only uses TTY. Although I do use X frequently on my laptop (for school, I need access to .docx, .pptx, etc), I find myself always hopping onto TTY for quicker and cleaner file management. TTY loads much quicker than a vir...
