Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads

I just grabbed this very clean T420 for $150. The Windows 7 installation, however, won't last past the first hour in my hands. :)

OK, I admit it. I have become an unabashed fan of cinnamon since using it with Debian, and now Slackware. For a full-featured DE, it is my new choice.

Happy Walpurgisnacht, my friends! :P

Re: good morning, good night

I heard that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plains. ;)

Here in western Oregon, March really "came in like a lion and went out like a lamb." April has been a mix. Had some nice 70-80°F days last week, now back to normal April weather: 50-60°F with scattered showers.

Re: bones

Debian 8.4 with Cinnamon. Actually, I'm quite impressed. Everything is very smooth and fast, particularly with desktop effects turned off. Bunch of X apps running, including Iceweasel, Inkscape, and GIMP, and RAM usage at 500MB. Not too shabby.

Excellent choice, ivan. I'm keeping my eye on 400 series Thinkpads, too. Currently looking at T420 models.

^ Of course, the one I didn't search the forums for, unlike redox, which I did! ;)

EDIT: Running live dvd right now. Gnome3, ugh, but surprisingly light and responsive even still, except for Tor browser, which of course is slow everywhere, because security.

^ You gotta love that so much time, effort, and energy are being wasted on software that really serves no practical purpose any more (unless you use old CRT monitors). I don't need to save my screen with bloated pretty (ugly!) pictures, I just need to lock the fucker without a clusterfuck of code. A...
