Re: Happy b-day, johnraff!

^ actually, it all depends on your mastery of your drug-intake. try to be aware of every sip and toke you have, and the effects it has on your body and mind. of course holding on to this mastery becomes substantially more difficult once the drug-intake increases, but that's part of the fun. tip: al...

Re: Happy b-day, johnraff!

"Out on a bender" sounds quite old to me - seems to date back to when I was a kid - likewise "bent" but with various meanings like "a bent copper" (=corrupt policeman) or "bent as a bottle of chips" (=gay) or "bent out of shape" (=drunk or =pissed of...

Re: Favorite browser

^^ interesting. I haven't noticed any CPU issue with Pale Moon so far. Suddenly CPU usage went up to 99% or so and stayed there. htop said it was palemoon. Probably one of my addons, or the combination with whatever web page I was on, but I don't remember that happening with Firefox or Iceweasel an...

Re: Favorite browser

Tried Palemoon last week. It looks just like Firefox (based on the long term support version I think) and all my addons seemed to work OK. Maybe just a little bit lighter on memory, maybe a tiny bit faster, maybe my imagination. Unfortunately it suddenly started eating all my CPU. Didn't feel like g...

Re: Post your Command line tricks

For those too lazy to learn gimp's filters and stuff... If you're bloated out enough to have xscreensaver installed along with xscreensaver-data-extra then you have vidwhacker. /usr/lib/xscreensaver/vidwhacker will do random weird things to an image it finds and output it as a pnm image. No need to ...

Really enjoying the random mixes. Hearing music I didn't even know was there, and other stuff sounds quite new taken out of its usual context. Image

^ spaces in filenames on Linux still? you are such a heretic John! use my fclean-script (it is out there, somewhere) to clean up those damn spaces, and make all the shit lowercase in the process. much nicer ;) Yeh, spaces and odd characters (except /) are all allowed in Unix so I feel we should jus...

Re: fill your mp3 player with a random mix

Pidsley, this was a great idea! One of those why didn't I think of that? moments. I have an old 500MB Ipod shuffle I use in the car for which this will be perfect. I had to hack at your code a bit, though, to fit my purposes. My music is a big rambling directory tree full of stuff from all kinds of ...

One reason I've not been around here so much lately is trying to keep tabs on what Abe and his friends have been doing. The most extreme right-wing PM Japan has had since the war. Evening all - here in darkest Japan Wednesday is over and it's 1:12am Thursday. A can of happoshu before bed. That pork did look good in spite of having multiple issues...

Massive snow further East but in Nagoya it's all melted already.
