Re: Saltimbocca (Linux BBQ Base) Release News

@beta: 64-bit is always lagging behind a bit, the closest (past) one is Escargot (that's the base for all current 64bit releases): http://www.linuxbbq.org/release_linuxbbq-0.4.1-escargot64.php I'll pack the configuration for Saltimbocca sometime next week (most probably until Wednesday) and let you ...

Welcome to the new users

I'm very sorry to tell you that a database update/restore went wrong and some posts were deleted. I would like to welcome the new user 'beta' and answer the questions regarding LVM. The original releases were based off Siduction and used their installer routine. I have decided to drop maintanence fo...

Re: Kielbasa Release News

Wux, I bet my dear ass that you didn't dd the stick right (or that it is broken, or that it isn't formatted) and it still has the old MATE on it. Would you do me a favour, install virtualbox-dkms and virtualbox-qt and try the ISO there? How many MB is the ....xfce64.iso file? du linuxbbq-rc1-xfce64....

Re: Kielbasa Release News

Thanks, Rho, but I wouldn't bother with it. The file on the server is on the byte exactly the same as I have locally, and the same as I tested in VirtualBox on the scrots above.

@wux: 400kB is 4x quicker than mine ;)

Re: Kielbasa Release News

Wux, this is impossible. The file size of both ISO is different, the md5sum is different, I have just checked the linked ISO and it runs XFCE. Please keep in mind that I have a slow internet connection so these things take me hours to check :( Kielbasa is 544 MB, the checksum is a3dc586322bf44d4583d...

Re: Kielbasa Release News

^ The Docky/Mono tandem, in its current state, cause serious lock-ups and crashes with CPU stalling at 100% In its state right now it is absolutely impossible to add to a 'stable' release, I'm afraid. To keep the role of an application launcher with custom launcher support and low resource usage I d...

Re: Kielbasa Release News

It would be a logical choice if you ran razorqt or KDE, and to be honest, I will most probably not pack 'photo' in Kielbasa, as it is out of scope. But with a bit of luck, if you write the developer, he might pack a Debian version (though nothing wrong with the Ubuntu deb, actually). Yeah sleepless ...

Re: Kielbasa Release News

Apprentice, actually I thought you wanted a 64bit for the wifey, sorry :D Yeah, Kielbasa 32 with systemd will come in early November, the last version is just a month old and actually quite stable (my main environment, so I know what I'm talking about hehe). It'll be a 1:1 copy of the 64bit version,...

Re: Kielbasa Release News

Thank you, vic. Every comment is motivation, so don't hesitate to post your observations. The Openbox session is quite equivalent to the XFCE session, so you won't miss anything. When you need help in creating your own remaster (an ISO you can share or use on different machines), just leave a messag...

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer {Solved}

^ Yes, supposedly routers have that setting when they are separated from a modem. For luck we can override it in Linux using different methods (one is the /etc/resolvconf/* or /etc/resolv.conf file, another is the usage of nm-tool or nm-applet, and of course wicd/ceni/..)

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer {Solved}

Ok, i understand now, so my router doesn't give out any DNS numbers, rubbish. Try to access your router from a browser (some routers can be accessed by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar, others react on 192.168.0.1 or something completely different, refer to your users manual) and override th...

Re: Oyster Release News

Oh, the labels in the boot menu? Yes, that's because I used the same config files for Oyster (it stems from Escargot). Simply ignore them, these things are purely cosmetic (like the /etc/issue or the window label of the installer in later versions) and have no impact on the live system/installation....

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer {Solved}

Thank you, glad you like it.
(The green screen is trying to look&feel like the P1 phosphor monitors. The other colour scheme - used for root - is a mock-up of P3 phosphor monochrome, also quite eye-pleasing, but needs heavy configuration in the Xresources file)

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer {Solved}

;-) In the past releases I had the DNS servers put into a file and they were automatically entered in the network devices, now this time with Wicd the users have to do it themselves. I could add "Enter a DNS server if your router doesn't assign one for you" to the cookbook ("Manage ne...

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer

In Specky, run ping -c 3 8.8.8.8 ping -c 3 google.com and see if you get a ping reaction back. The first pings google's IP address, and the second uses the DNS resolver. If the second fails, you need to enter the DNS servers, like 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 or 208.67.220.220 to your ceni or Wicd or router. ...

Re: speckdrum wifi bummer

1) Please post your output of

Code: Select all

 lspci -nnk
2) DHCP enabled on the router?

3) Try rhowaldt's suggestion to unlink the killswitch.

4) Change the colour scheme in .Xresources - that's what the BBQ releases are for.
