Re: How do you organize your (Git) repos on your computer?

Mine stay in a directory hierarchy that is based on subject matter (often style of project, wm's and configs in one place, scripts in another, etc.). Normally I push after making changes, but automate the pulls to keep things in sync, especially across different systems. If a file HAS to be in $HOME...

Re: adding additonal packages to szalonna

I'll throw in here that I've had some really great luck with building executables on one partition (very similar to what Pidsley mentioned above) and then simply moving them into the relevant location in szalonna via mounting. The worst issue being that some of the dynamic libraries for some binarie...

Re: How do you like to install an OS?

I liked the Win 95/98 via floppy disk install. Wasn't it like 16 floppies that had to be loaded? "Insert disk 13 of 16 and press 'enter'". Made me feel like I was needed, because those floppies won't change themselves. Anyhow, it really doesn't make me a whole lot of difference as to what ...

Re: new wave

No offense meant. I normally associate New Wave with the same time frame as well, and especially the introduction of the music video. I meant the 'rule' statement to be taken as humor, based on the fact that I had just posted in the 'punk' thread...which probably makes no sense to anyone but me cons...

Re: Emacs tips and tricks

Didn't know about Hemlock. We need good ol' Joe for this one. ;) Sorry, just now caught up on this thread. What do I need to make happen? Hemlock in Debian? I will give it a go sometime. (Edit: Perhaps not getting to this soon, if ever. I'm having a bit of trouble managing some IRL stuff right now.)

Re: new wave

I do not obey the 1970-80's rule. Saw these guys a few years ago, in a hole in the wall metal club of all things, and seriously playing to a group of about 20 totally confused people and like 5 people who knew what they sounded like. I'd say that they keep that whole 'new wave' vibe alive pretty wel...

Re: punk

Since we're ignoring silly glam punk and going straight to music made by angry people. Minor Threat is a personal favorite, primarily because they were VERY working class. Whereas much of punk rock up to the time was about wearing studded leather and doing drugs "like a rockstar", they rep...

Heh, in a similar picture, here's our Lucy chilling with the Boo. They partied hard for New Year's. boo_n_pup.jpg She's actually got exactly 2 modes. "Bad" and "Cute". Interestingly, they can run concurrently. I have to admit that although she drives me crazy, steals my shoes and...

LOL @ Harems. In either case, it takes a lot of man to satisfy them.

Re: New Year's computer resolutions?

TBH: I'm totally burned out as well. Went to mention this in a few different spots and ended up just deleting the post, but really, I'm still here because I like the people. The grand truth is that Linux has stopped being fun for me. I had rather install a LTS of some kind, set it up one time how I ...

Here's what I've got, which seems to work as expected: EDIT! - Since I was using multiplication, I had an init function which was meant to cover not simply multiplying by 0 which wouldn't actually ever change a value. @Pidsley: though i don't quite understand Haskell, your code looks beautiful ^ I would say this is the general consensus on Pidsley's Haskell. "We don't know how it works, but it looks beautiful." Also, I wasn't totally sure that your method wouldn't work. Hell, I'm not TOTALLY sure that ...

There's probably (read: almost certainly) better ways to do this in Scheme as well. I don't know those yet, though, so I don't use them. :)

Re: Daily Programming Challenge:

For sure GP, this may also prove to be above mine (in Scheme, at least) as well, but it's really pretty simple to understand if you realize the 'why' I'm going this direction. I'm writing for the machine, not for the programmer's sake a bit. There is an assumption I'm making: Assumption= Compounding...
