Re: Quote of the day

The GNOME project has always tried to be window manager-agnostic, acknowledging that most users get really attached to their window managers, and forcing them to use something that manages windows differently would detract from their audience.

If I were to vote again, I'd choose Slackware. I know of no distro as friendly and unobtrusive. (plus you get clever quotes on login)

Extra applications in the profile list

testdisk

My external NTFS drive broke hard, I could not mount it in Linux (invalid partition table) nor Windows. In both cases it reported it was 1 TB large instead of 500 GB. I don't know why or how this happened (except "bloody computers"), but testdisk recovered the NTFS partition and allowed me...

Well, I ALMOST have it working on Arch. (Works fine on SubLinux, which I couldn't try much as it only boots on my XP laptop). https://github.com/AladW/epoch-arch Error messages: "Failed to mount /proc" and "Failed to mount /sys". Kernel is the stock Arch one with initramfs (3.12....

Stumbled on this:

Like PCManFM, but more tune-able and less in the way (use -nohal). Interesting to see how you can ruin a perfectly fine program with feature creep (SpaceFM).

Also, for the coreutils gurus:

There is a great deal of effort made to make contributing to the Kernel or Libreoffice accessible to beginners, for example. However, trying to fix a bug in a component of GNOME 3 or add a feature to GTK+...
