Kernel questions: shouldn't I get the latest kernel? how?

Hi gang, back at the Sid grill after some heavy distro hopping..... Anyway, can anybody help me solve this: - If an up-to-date system is the best security measure, should'nt I have the lastest available kernel ? - I read that "the older kernel runs cooler ". Any more info on this please? -...

Re: LibreOffice 4.0 - can it be placed in the repos?

Yes, as said, I didn't realise that LO was THAT fresh, thought it had been out for longer. I'm off to the Debian site, to see if I can register as a package maintainer. I presume LO has maintainers, as its a popular program, but I will check. * It's all good* ** edit 10 februari 2013 - It's in Exper...

Re: LibreOffice 4.0 - can it be placed in the repos?

@pids: thanks for the detailed instructions anyway! @pids and @machinebacon: I didn't realize that LibreOffice4.0 is only 1 day old, as pids wrote. Or: brand brand new. I thought it was a little bit older. The WTF-comment was directed at the Debian Experimental repo, nothing to do with BBQ-repos. Ha...

Re: LibreOffice 4.0 - can it be placed in the repos?

Hi Pids, to answer: - new=better That's why I use a rolling distro :-) I was surprised to see LO4.0 isnt even in Debian Experimental - I thought Experimental was for .. eh .. experimenting! - I prefer repos over self installing, because that way it's easier to keep track of things - new features in ...

LibreOffice 4.0 - can it be placed in the repos?

I use LibreOffice (alongside other software, like Gnumeric, various editors etc). LibreOffice 4.0 is out since a few days. It is not yet in Sid, not even in Experimental (??? wtf ?? ) To be honest, I haven't looked to see if the Siduction team has packaged it themselves..... Could LibreOffice4.0 be ...

Re: slogan needed

@pensigobbler: "A well hung OS" ;-) Nah, I'll stick to the reasons I use Linux. Which is 1. Lazyness. I am too lazy to jump through all the hoops and WTFs of proprietary operating systems. 2. Freedom. 3. Quality (this is partly already in 1.) 4. Different. Linux - Be Lazy like a Pro Il'' q...

Re: slogan needed

OK, I've been inspired by the suggestions. And I've even been playing with GIMP, but Im not very handy with it - I'll try later with Inkscape, which is easier, if I remember right (used it some years ago). I'll post it later (have a hell of a busy week first, you know, work and so) I have a few nice...

Re: slogan needed

I like the "unappropriate" suggestions. Like Break it; Built on Guano and so on. I also like the suckless/ Mutt-style slogans: All mail clients suck, Mutt sucks less. Insider jokes are nice too: The Red Pill; Version 13.37. "Why fly when you can swim?" Perhaps I will choose one o...

slogan needed

I m designing a sticker for my laptop. My goal is to let the world know I m using linux. Tux is of course our powerful symbol. Please give me suggestions for a slogan to go with Tux. Could be professional ("Linux, the professional OS") or a twist on other slogans (think free; powered by li...
