Re: ✞ Obituary ✞

Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. The spaghetti western dream team! I grew up watching those guys dish out knuckle sandwiches right and left. Bud was the silent, cranky old man, and Terence Hill always played the upbeat sidekick. I fucking loved those films. The films may have been in B-movie territory,...

Re: If not Debian...

When I'm not breaking things in Linux, I will be on what I call my gaming OS (Win 10).

I don't like too many distractions on my OS's, so the desktop is clean.

Re: Emacs tips and tricks

Smartparens is cool and all, but I don't want everything paired eeeeverywhere. In lisp dialects, the ' character usually stands alone, so let's stop pairing that one. (with-eval-after-load 'smartparens (sp-local-pair 'emacs-lisp-mode "'" nil :actions nil) (sp-local-pair 'lisp-interaction-m...

I only use new and regularly updated software. Make sure you never post any links to something that isn't at least updated daily.

If you've opened #file# and emacs then autosaves that file, I would assume it becomes ##file##

Re: org-mode

Very early on, I used evil mode, but I wound up removing it again fairly quickly. The problem is that you end up with a mix of keyboard shortcuts that, in my experience at least, do more harm than good. Once you get the emacs C-x M-x convention under your skin, they do make a lot of sense. If you al...

Re: org-mode

As mentioned in the video, literate programming is great for learning, but as an everyday emacs user, I would echo @gekko in that it doesn't feel all too advantageous. I guess having a descriptive headline rather than just a function name is neat, but if you're immersed in emacs daily you know the f...

@rho ... if the answer isn't "yes", it most likely will be soon. I use it for TODO lists, with a separate archive. Everything is tagged, date stamped and associated with a project. That project can be tagged :writing:, :writing:blog:, :writing:snippets:, :writing:research:, :school:, :scho...

Re: Linux News

Last time I met him and asked, his answer was "Closed source only works for client projects. Everything else should be open." me: "yeah, but how do we do it?", him: "change company strategy", he then walks away.

Re: Linux News

Just ask how closed source companies can go open source overnight (as he wants it) without having to let most of their workers go, who in return won't be able to support their families. He's been trumpeting that for years without even guessing at how it could be accomplished (and he doesn't care). H...

Re: Why HardMetal + cli == good for you.

This discussion reminds me of how old I'm getting. I started with cli using the Lambda, C64, C128, ZX Spectrum, 8086, 8088 and then a 80286 where I finally had my first brush with a point and click interface in the guise of Windows 2.1. I pretty much agree with everything Joe says in his post. TUI >...
