Bootlogging

Unread post by rhowaldt » Fri Jun 05, 2015 10:59 pm

was just reading about this and figured: y u no make thread!? - so there. this is about bootlogging. of course you think "dmesg", but no, dmesg starts logging a bit late in the whole process and we can get earlier: bootlogd, which places some of the stuff you see scrolling along before the login prompt in /var/log/boot.

after this we get into a bit more "insane" territory, which is to say: actual debugging and with that the question of "how far do you want to go, dude?"
anyway, we are lucky that we have our brothers at Arch who wrote that shit up. if you want to drastically increase your bootlogging skillz, read here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Boot_debugging

why? exploration.
