Choose the fastest Debian mirror

Unread post by ivanovnegro » Fri Nov 01, 2013 7:33 pm

If you encounter that your Debian mirror is too slow then you have to change something. That is what happened here lately. When I do updates, they seem to have slowed down when I download the new packages.
Obviously it is time to change to a faster one. You can do that manually by choosing the mirror from this list, the one you think is next to you or you can even test which one is really the best option by installing netselect-apt.
Then just run it with your preferred Debian branch, I did this for Sid and Experimental:

Code: Select all

sudo netselect-apt sid

and

Code: Select all

sudo netselect-apt experimental
It will choose the best option for you and print it out. You have just to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list accordingly and replace the name with the new mirror.
