If you're easily offended by foul language or views on a particular matter, which might not agree with your own, you should probably get the fuck away from this section right now. Seriously.

Hmmm, good question. How about: coreutils vs. adding a bunch of bloat that does the same shit

how about: when you eat yoghurt, does it come out as poo or pee?
All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

Neither. Yoghurt is the only substance known to man that cannot be secreted or extracted. Yoghurt merges with your body and becomes part of it. Over the course of several months of yoghurt intake, it will latch onto your brain and start making you say shit like "it's real good for you", "it does wonders for my digestion", and "you should try some - you look like you need it." This is followed by a stench of smugness that usually sets off most modern fire alarms.
This has been a public service announcement.
edit: oh, I forgot .... fuck yoghurt.

Maybe I just haven't paid attention, but how many coreutils "replacements" do we really have floating around out there. I've noticed the nc<whatever> ones that have popped up over the years, but what else?

slartie, I'm talking about specifically the tendency towards an entire move away from the "Unix way" in favor of GUI tools, I guess. But even amongst the cli-warriors, we see the usage of (just taking file managers as an example), ranger, clex, mc, vifm, lfm, etc. Not that I have a problem with these (use them myself occasionally), but I think there's something to be said about being familiar with the tools you already have, before feeling like you need to install MOAR STUFF!

I'd definitely want some bbq'ers on the podcast, that's a given.
The userland thing can get very ugly very quickly. I like it.
LT vs RMS ... Linus wins. He has a harpoon gun. RMS has .. well .. a drum circle and bare feet.
