Voted Slackware because I am a full time slacker wannabe beach bum, 2nd would be NetBSD.

^ Good bump Chef, the newcomers can cast a vote or comment on this subject. I had completely forgotten about the thread. But now I would vote differently though.

Re: If not Debian...
Went with the crowd, slack. Maybe alpine, not seen the desktop on alpine though.
Re: If not Debian...
Great thread bump! Same answer for me, still. Although if 9front (plan9 clone) had a decent browser, I'd probably use that!
EDIT: Oh yes, as wux said, alpine would be another choice.

Re: If not Debian...
Totally forgot about this, but i voted source-based as i have no quarrel against compiling stuff as long as it isn't fireweasel, chromium, or all the usual suspects... there are a lot of good (IMO) distro agnostic package managers out there like pkgin/pkgsrc or nixpkgs, or simple ones like crux's or slackpkg anyway.

Re: If not Debian...
I chose Android because it had a :) beside it, and I like :)
Simple interface, a crapload of apps (some of them are even useful)
and some nice configuration options :)
My only problem with Android is all the Google :(
Google everywhere on my phone, searching and who knows what else :(

Sir! Put down the hammer and slowly step away from the computer.

Re: If not Debian...
^^ You can eliminate Google from your phone for the most part. Unlock the bootloader and flash on CyanogenMod (10.1 if you want Android 4.4.4, 12.1 for 5.11, and 13 for 6.0.*). Don't flash the GAPPS package, which you would need to do separately anyway, and just grab the F-Droid apk using Browser. From there you can download Lightning Browser, install Tinfoil for Facebook and Twitter if you use those, a YouTube viewer, etc. etc.
For maximum rice/comfort, you could root it (from CyanogenMod's settings menu it is one quick, no-reboot click!) and flash the Xposed Framework. Hundreds of great xposed modules to do pretty much anything; block YouTube ads allow play in background, AdBlock (or AdAway from F-Droid), lock apps with a password, etc.
Just be sure to encrypt your phone from the settings menu. Otherwise, someone can view everything on your phone by just plugging it into their computer :0

Re: If not Debian...
@Dr: wonderful, thanks for that. even though i like Google apps, this is still very interesting. i always felt more should be possible with Android, but obviously i should look way beyond the Play Store :)

Re: If not Debian...
I have changed my tune from Arch... FreeBSD's ports have replaced ABS in my book. I also enjoy Slackware's philosophy and overall design, so it would probably be what I would be primarily running if it wasn't for Debian being as glorious (and familiar!) as it is.
