Usually I am not a fan of Liquorix, but this time it really makes a difference compared with the towo kernel.

Have not been using Liquorix since "ENOUGH", maybe it is time to give it a try?

^Seems the scheduler is a bit better for my linux vm host.
It _could_ be 3.13 vs 4.0, tho.

That's a test machine, on oldstable. Here is the main machine:
Code: Select all
gadget:~ $ env-info
pidsley@gadget
OS: Debian GNU/Linux 7 (wheezy)
Uptime: 0d 22h 0m
Shell: /bin/bash
WM: ratpoison
Disk: 1.7G / 7.8G
Mem: 359M / 3.0G
Kernel: Linux 3.14-0.bpo.2-686-pae i686
CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D410 @ 1.66GHz
I won't use a 4.0 kernel until I absolutely have to. The LTS kernels work quite well on my hardware. I am only using the backport kernel on this machine because I don't get a full resolution console with the 3.2 kernel.
And you're right, the NFS servers are also running oldstable, with the 3.2 kernel.

My machines do not like the 4.0 kernels either, but the 4.2 (as in smoothie) seems to work well.
Code: Select all
kberg@grill:~$ env-info
OS: LinuxBBQ Smoothie
Uptime: 0d 5h 40m
Shell: /bin/bash
WM: spectrwm
Xcolors: sunlight
Disk: 2.5G / 14G
Mem: 53M / 490M
Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-trunk-586 i686
CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 560 @ 2.13GHz

@pidsley: of course, I should have remembered that wheezy had the 3.2 kernel -- actually, for 99% of the things we are doing, we could even still run squeeze ;)
@rusty: yeah, 4.2 works well here too, even on low-spec netbooks. I have the feeling they'll keep this as static kernel in Debianland (stretch).
