Which email client (if any) do you use?

Unread post by GekkoP » Tue Aug 25, 2015 5:58 pm

I know most people use the web interface these days, but some may still like an email client. Or not.

Say what you want, girls.

I used cone, as it was simple to get working with gmail, following kmandlas how to.
The last few times i tried, I got some errors, and didn't bother.
But yes, I tend to just open it in the browser. I use the "plain html" setting, which seems to help a little bit

I have a bloated Debian Stretch install with GNOME3 that I use for Thunderbird :D

If I am in one of my other installs and can't be bothered to reboot I will usually setup mutt with my .muttrc that I keep on a USB, but I usually only use it to click links to activate accounts and such.

i tried setting up mutt and gmail once with success, but found the gmail webinterface to be perfect for my needs. plus the fact that i can access it anywhere and it is the same interface anywhere :)

for those of you with bbq accounts, I just read your mail by 'cat *' in the maildir/cur/ :) kidding, kidding I wouldn't want to do that.

As for me:

- mutt on CLI
- Thunderbird on GUI

I got 4 emails account (one personal, two for work and one cinema-related) I regularly check so it makes sense to check them all with the same client.

Outside of work, my phone. I have mutt for my gmail, but don't use it. My phone is always right there. If by chance not, I'll just use the web interface. Honestly, I'm not very important. Outside of work, emails are negligent. At work its Outlook 2013

^ same

Edit: I should elaborate.

I have done the minimal thing for along time using Mutt or Alpine for most of that time. I have also used my share of GUI versions Evolution, Thunderbird, Claws etc. But now with the cell phones with more power than some of my machines and the built in ability to sync contacts mails and texts its convenient. The privacy issues remain but I am nobody doing no thing so lets hope they leave me alone.

I had been using thunderbird for years but finally made the jump to offlineimap + sup (http://supmua.org/) this month. It's efficient so far. Astroid (http://gaute.vetsj.com/pages/astroid.html) from the same developer is also very good. If anyone once to switch to offlineiamp + mutt, this is helpful: https://github.com/mwnx/mutterer

In the end it is only web mail. At least Gmail has all the short cuts I need.

Icedove because of GnuPG vs. encryption in my webmail.
