Wish a spin...

Unread post by machinebacon » Tue Jan 12, 2016 5:29 pm

...actually I just want to gather some ideas and inspiration - and a bit of an exercise. Please fill in all fields ;)

- base (yeah, you can wish any Linux base here - please don't raise Ubuntu)
- architecture (well, i386 or amd64, though I would *really* prefer 32-bit whenever possible)
- WM/DE
- special purpose, programs
- release name

No warranty, I just need a bit of brainstorming. Thanks in advance.

You already did Whacky, so I should just STFU. Anyways, to spice things up a little:

- base: CRUX
- architecture: i386 (I know it can be done, thanks to Pidsley)
- WM: ratpoison (if tiling), evilwm (if floating)
- programs: no special requirements here (yep, not even Emacs)
- release name: Cruxy Pants

Base: Debian Sid
Arch: x86
WM: All
Purpose: "Docker image, the purpose can be anything from development, testing things, artful experimental things, or just a collection of cli programs and grillers' script to educate the masses (secret propaganda thing), etc"
Name: Can't beat Dockside Brothel
You wouldn't have to do much- this would almost be Cream :) Though I have had a LOT of fun trying cairo-dock on some of these wm's, lols!

@bacon:
Sponge cakes , I've only Azerbaijani You can osszerottyantom
if "piskota" is really what you meant and you are referring to Kex as "Sponge Cake-lino", that is genius. other than that i am indeed scratching my skinhead.

Base: your mother
Arch: no
WM: Unity
Purpose: 42
Name: Cockface

I heard an Australian use the word "cockface" the other day and loved it. really nice insult.
so yeah basically all i wanted to do is provide a name. did we have a "suggest new spin names" thread somewhere or have i dreamed it? anyway, "Cockface", please. get those Distrowatch ratings up.

Hmmm..

Base: Debian Sid
Arch: i386
WM: Oroborus
Progs: Rox-filer (with trashcan support), fbpanel, a converted standard XFCE to Oroborus (not really a program, and easy to do), the standard CLI goodies.
Purpose: To confuse 'standard' XFCE users, on the first sight it may look the same.. but it isn't :)
Name: Boodog (a traditional Mongolian meatdish) I've read the distrowatch topic ;)

guys, thanks for the suggestions so far...

darry, it won't be possible to add ceni to Slackware - but easy enough to get network up and running. BTW actually there was a BBQ spin with Slack in the past: http://www.linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1451 -- I will definitely revisit Slackware and add scripts to give it an option for remastering. Will take some time to make it work OOTB for everyone, but Slack is internally our next, new BBQ base to replace sid.
Progress so far:
70%
Theo, this should be quite easy to remix - a pity rox depends on libgtk2 (but yeah). So this should have xfce4-panel and oroborus, maybe even with xfwm4-themes? No problem. Might even be finished this weekend.
Chances to have it on the grill until February:
80%
Snap, I like the idea of having a noX base. Void is an interesting distro which I haven't followed in a while.
Level of Curiosity:
70%
Frank and nomnom, I haven't tried docker yet, and I probably will need to RTFM first, but I put it on the TODO list.
Level of how clueless I am:
100%

kex, this will definitely happen because I want to play around with debian live scripts and set the hooks up. And I want to call it Kocsonya. If you have configs or special wishes for the bar, let me know.
How much I want to satisfy my Kexolino:
100%
simgin and wux, this is a nice exercise - no warranty, no guarantee, I do have two Raspis and want to make good use of them anyway. Won't be X86, then :)
Chances of trying hard:
100%
Keep the ideas coming, this thread has given me a kind of boner already.

Cool :) I believe that only one file has to be replaced from the original XFWM4 theme (in another directory). So the look of XFCE can be imitated.

@bacon: nice :D I did have a simple bar config, but I don't know where it is, probably lost, unless it's on an external hard drive somewhere. Mistake. But one of Drew's configs should be better anyway :)

@rho: keksz is biscuit in Hungarian, that's why I can be piskotalino.. it does sound pretty good xD as for the összerottyantás, guess it's more interesting as a head-scratcher :)
