BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
Please vote here: which DE/WM should be the GUI for the upcoming "Democrat" roast of BBQ? You can (!) pick two; if you choose one/two of the last three options, please kindly elaborate :)

Re: BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
voting a bit out of a lack of experience, but i love Openbox and XFCE is pretty fantastic too, so that's my reasoning.
All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

Re: BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
guess what I voted for ...
OB + tiler (i3), but I would accept another in place of it (spectrwm). I think that would be just such a kick ass setup. Anyway, that's my vote and I'm sticking to it :)

Now that Fuduntu is gone- what about gnome2 ? Or with Wayland coming would Hawaii be an option ?

I'd like to see awesome roasted to perfection...and openbox (not lxde) still remains one of my favorites, so that will be my second choice.

Just on a side note (before some of you ask: Why another Roast?) -- each and every base application will undergo a poll (terminal emulator, text editor, browser, media player, music player, file manager, even the artwork)

Openbox like in Archbang or E17 :)
Dell Latitude C640 - CPU P4 2GHz - RAM 1,5 GB - made in 2002 - I'm in the Manjaro-i3 land now :)
Re: BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
Mate might be like Gnome2. But it isn't good ole Gnome. From the old days when i was young and happy. And when a DE actually did what the user wanted. And not made the user do what the DE wanted. Like 2 years ago. When i started tinkering with Linux, i started with Gnome (well, actually i started with Arch because some smartass told me that it was cool. It made me cry with fruustration. I was used to Apple computers).

^ you don't remember macos -before- the 'X' ?
MacOS 9.2.1 FTW.
BTW when is linux getting 'spring-loaded' folders?
before OS X - macos was innovative.
OK 1.5 bottles of finest french plonk may have abused my opinion XP
arch makes me cry, too 8'(

Re: BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
a few days ago I ran Ubuntu 6.06 and to be honest I was very VERY happy to shut the computer down after not being able to connect/setup a D-link wifi adapter with it. seriously, Mate is so so much better :)

After a bottle of Wine I decided for Mate, hehe. And of course, my alternative goes to Spectrer because now we can have the newest version after the damn freeze.

@Ivy: more wine for you, you make good decisions!
@apprentice: yeah why not razorqt :) It was there on Oyster and it worked well, IIRC. Just gotta get their eggwm from somewhere :)
@wuxmedia: Who would have thought?! :D

Re: BBQ Democrat - Window Manager/DE
Okay, one more vote for Mate and one less for "others" then- i just changed my vote.
You should take a look at Fuduntu though (there are still images around even if the distro is defunct). It uses Gnome2 and functions extremely well.
And i don't cry if i use Arch anymore. Thanks to Manjaro.
