BBQ Democrat - Pre-Installed Applications
What set of base applications should the upcoming BBQ Democrat contain OOTB? Please pick exactly ONE :)
Explanation:
"Roast your Own" Install Script + CLI apps only = This would be a very puristic ISO which boots (via login manager) into a Xsession and runs a "welcome script" (see attachment) in which the user can "apt-get" his favourite apps via a dialog-driven menu. When finished, an own redistributable ISO can be roasted directly. (BTW: This saves us from further polls)
CLI apps only = taking up least of the space, DE/WM independent, users can apt-get their apps manually.
CLI and GUI apps = the polls will continue... Brings us a full-featured live/install ISO with a sane GUI app selection.

I think the RYO option really offers a great way to kick off the summer Q season and add some spice in the forums.

i was still in some doubt until i read dkeg's words of wisdom. great thinking man, RYO gets my vote for sure.

After finishing, the installer could tell the user that he just died from dysentery...

Re: BBQ Democrat - Pre-Installed Applications
I find the approach with a base ISO and a script menu very well.
My ideal vision is:
1 Install a sid-based iso with the normal live-installer from Debian.
2 Upgrade the whole system and reboot.
3 (Auto) run a script to install the software.
4 All your special flavors can be there as meta-packages (eg xfce-environment, i3wm, cli-only, libre-office, all-media codecs, only-free media codecs, etc.). There are no limits for further ideas...
You have a choice: install the software package for packages manually, or install some meta-packages, or mix both ways.
And you don't have to build dozens of spins to fit all needs.
This would be my favorite way. The sexiest way.
Cheers,
Chris
PS:
To turn off the music, you have to solve a puzzle. :)

^ It's in the making :)
(By the way, the "music in the menu" can be triggered with the command 'startup')
Thanks for the votes :)
