So far, nothing really serious. One thing though: 3.13-3.towo is a couple of MB heavier on RAM than 3.12-8. So yeah, nothing serious.
On my Aspire though, there's the latest Debian kernel, 3.12-1, and with sysv at boot, is my lightest machine on RAM usage. Funny, cause it's my oldest computer.
To continue this discussion, I just add that latest kernel (3.13-7.towo-siduction-686-pae) is heavier on RAM usage than the three before it. At least on my Elektra. I'm talking about nothing really serious, just 1/2MB, but I'll do some tests today with other kernels to see if there is any significant difference.

I use a fixed version, and manually update when I feel like it.

I build my own from latest stable at kernel.org/fsfla (then if they are ok, they get used in antiX). At the moment, I'm a bit behind, been busy,

Code: Select all

 uname -a
Linux antiX1 3.13.3-antix.1-amd64-smp #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Feb 17 00:12:51 EET 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Do I notice any differences? Usually a slight increase or decrease in RAM usage and sometimes a slightly faster/slower boot.

Anti, I still have a copy of your 3.7.1-antix-3, I think it was...
It gives me lots of red text at boot, but it is very quick, and light on ram use.

"I use a fixed version, and manually update when I feel like it"

I tend to prefer LTS versions, unfortunately only 3.2 is in Debian, so I steal them from Tanglu (3.12.20). Same for wheezy where I rebuild it with gcc 4.6 and cowbuilder (i486/i686pae/amd64/*-rt in two passes).
It's funny how we used to be able to do real stuff with rudimentary computers, but now we can't. -- ratcheer
