Setup: Compton with shadows, useless gaps
Problem: your frame is transparent and when resize frames, left with dark shadows that fill the frames. Changing workspaces and back fixes but there is an actual fix. Not in the autostart by default. So if you like your shadows and gaps, clean it up with

Code: Select all

hc rule frame_normal_opacity 1
hc rule frame_active_opacity 1
I think that's right. On my phone and going off memory.

Also found a dialogue popup float fix. I stumbled across it searching another issue. I'll post up later.

Today's continuation of the Creamfest begins with herbstluftwm, a manual tiling window manager, whose layout is based on splitting frames into subframes which can be split again or can be filled with windows:

nice bones.

to follow up on my earlier post. Generally hlwm isn't known for handling dialog windows very well. Usually will tile it, not float it. Of course others are similar, like monster. However, since generally that is not part of my work flow, it hasn't been an issue. Still though, coming across this 'fix' is a check off the list and another feather in the cap of the herbst.

Code: Select all

hc rule windowtype~'_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_(DIALOG|UTILITY|SPLASH)' manage=off focus=on
hc rule windowtype~'_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_(NOTIFICATION|DOCK)' manage=off focus=off

the only disadvantage is since the dialog/popup is now unmanaged, until you satisfy it, it will remain, even if you switch workspaces. Of course, unless its gimp you're floating, usually satisfied immediately.

Good Saturday.
Nothing much,
  • Colorview, env-info, cmus all organized nicely for the scrot.
Wall effect with hsetroot blur and brightness options.
Notification 10s using bar set with a keybinding. Would like to set auto on song song change, but that's another day.
Colors are still browntown2 and font is neep.
