pffft, got a long way to go too 8)
example: I was happy I had remembered how to set the gateway, dns server and (well the netmask is pretty standard) and the IP of the box.

^ Nice. Did you have to modify the 'env-info' script to run on OpenBSD? Even when I change my shell from ksh to bash, I can't get the script to run. Although I haven't delved into the issue much, really.

EDIT: About a week until 5.5 is released, should be a good one.

Yes, the script has to be heavily modified (bash is not in /bin, to begin with), and it's still not quite right -- I can't find the "free" util and the way the disk is partitioned the disk usage is meaningless. I looked at how screenfetch does memory used on BSD and it's very complicated; not something I care enough about to add to env-info.

I honestly don't know how long I will use BSD this time -- I install it every few months, and then I remember how different everything is and I get tired of it. Interesting to try every now and then though.

I can appreciate this, for sure. Although there's a lot to like about OpenBSD, things are just different enough from Linux to send me back to the comforts of what I know better, Slackware. Hell, things are often different enough between Slackware and Debian to keep me searching for the right answers!

Just installed Cream and I'm having some fun, here in window manager nirvana.

Bacon, did you intend for the os-release to still say "Cream alpha," or is this final?

^ it's just a string in /etc/os-release and has no deeper meaning. It was a "Alpha pre-release" before, then we changed a few things (very minor) and I respun it, and between Alpha and Final there is exactly zero difference.

CRUX 3.1-rc3 is out. It ships with eudev, and here I'm using busybox init.

I am actually starting to like this Sempron box. I paid $10 for it on ebay, and it handles everything I throw at it. It also has probably the best sound system of all my machines.

Good to know about this. I would like to pick up a good, cheap, older 32-bit desktop machine to play around with. Having just my T61 at home, there's really nothing else for me to experiment with, except the two old Athlon XP 2000+ machines at work (not really mine).

The Sempron is 64-bit! This is part of why I like it so much -- it can build CRUX 64-bit.

Old 32-bit P4 or Celeron machines should be available for free or almost free if you ask around, especially now that XP is no longer supported, and people have to upgrade to use Win8.

Failing that, there are many P4 boxes on ebay for cheap. Even Core2duo boxes are cheap now (I paid $50 for mine).

Oops, big homework FAIL on my part. Actually, I could go either/or, as long as it's a desktop. I guess I'll just start looking/asking around!

Slightly OT, but: I might look into one or two of those Sempron for our school. They are really cheap and I think they would be a nice add here. Thanks for the suggestion, even though it probably wasn't meant to be one. ;)
