Thanks. I'm not really sure when and how it happens. I think tty-clock and htop somehow simply ignore urxvt transparency.

Wux had asked for some scrots. I like it simple, urxvt transparency to me is distracting. Liberation sans mono 12-Debian sid-3.16 Kernel

^ Hey, very nice nova! I agree with the transparency thing; it really can be distracting ;) Your wall makes me fill... chilly. Yet cozy.

On a side note, don't be worried by the custom user title. It'll change from "troll" when you hit 5 posts!

Looks good, nova, nice and simple. Also not a fan of transparency.

Well done. If you don't care about transparency and unicode, you could use an even lighter terminal like aterm or st. I do like a little semi-transparency myself.

Thanks all for the compliments. Yes,Pidsley aterm would be nice lite alternative. Aterm could be configured for pseudo-transparency if desired.

Nice, colours and font looks nice and smooth.
I presume you just went offline to take your scrot, hence the red net bits ?
I like transparency at home. can't deal with it at work for some reason.

okay, mostly done here i think. switched from my eternal #!-leftover Openbox+conky+tint2+dark-theme setup to i3+i3bar+i3status+custom-theme.

i'm really enjoying i3. i've never worked with a stacker before, but i understand the appeal. grabbing my mouse is still quite intuitive, but i am getting more and more used to keeping my hands on the keyboard instead.

this is basically Bork! with i3 replacing Openbox, customized bar (i found out i really dont like naming workspaces with numbers so i used some characters instead), status and fonts. i liked the transparency on the terminal so i cranked it up slightly (to 23) so you can see the cool wallpaper behind it.

Lookin' good, rhow, I like it! Love the characters instead of numbers.

Nice rho. What are the fonts. Your term and i3 font are different (more interested in the i3 font)

/me marks date in calender "Rho posts non-OB scrot!"

Looking nice. ;)

Edit: On the subject of transparency, I'm not sure that I have an opinion. I tried using it with my tilers to help with making better notice of which window had focus, but really found that I prefer a super-fat border with a high contrast color much better. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference, and perhaps next week my opinion will have changed again.

Jeez, rho. Fantastic scrot! Definitely digging the choice of characters over numbers.

Yes - marks date, Rhow posts scrot!
That's the second scrot i've ever seen from you, and it's a killer.
Love the workspace chars too, expect for it to be ripped off.

Only thing about i3 is I start to alt-[number] to switch by default, you'll soon have "arg 2" in your term windows if you use another WM, well I do.

Yeah, transparency with a uniform colour, not too detailed wall is great.
I tried the focus/dimmed terminals - did my head in.
Like Joe I have a red border indicator, that and the box for the cursor is hollow when not in use.

thanks guys :)

i dont use transparency for differentiating between focused windows, i just use it because i think that, indeed, with a simple wall, it looks really pretty :)
i just look at the border, like you guys.

fonts i have to look at when im home but from the top of my head it is Roboto in i3 and one of the Artwiz fonts in the i3bar. termfont is simply terminus because i am still having trouble finding a good terminal font alternative as well as make it work with urxvt. Jules, is the urxvt that is default in Bork compiled without xft or whatever it is called? only idea i have left...

Wow, Rhow, looking splendid.

I think urxvt in Debian comes with xft support though I prefer it old school and neither do I use transparency.

I switched to using Xresources, to make changes in ~/.Xresources, do:

Code: Select all

xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources

i do use xresources, but cannot get xft fonts to work. i can open a separate topic for it if you would really like to pursue it further, and i'd be happy with help. but i am also quite content to just leave it like this :)

It will work. I have a fresh "bork" where I haven't put any fonts on yet. I'll give it a walk through.
We can break it off into a new thread after.
I think Ivan was just making sure you have 'merged' them. I sometimes forget.

^^ You could install xfontsel and set the font the "old school way", like -*-terminus-medium-*-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
