^ They seem to have a thing for chickens, so when in Rome (Ha! Italian distro, too!)... Yes, I love that wallpaper, too. I have to say, it's one of the fastest default Xfce distros I've ever used, and curiously, I seem to get better battery life with it. Usually I get 1:30 or so on the T61; with Sabayon, 2:00+. Don't know why. Seems pretty stable, too, no crashes or anything weird so far.

Ha! I loved Sabayon when I used it! (I did the KDE version though. Shame on me.) dasgregor on YouTube reviewed it a while back and it really looked nice so I gave it a whirl. The package manager, equo, never gave me any grief but I didn't try portage as I wasn't familiar enough with Gentoo to know that it was the thing to do.

Edit: Jeez, I didn't see your scrot, pidsley. Very nice to see some of the old BBQ spins still up and kicking!

Edit 2: Jeez x 2, I didn't notice Gekko's scrot either. Very nice! Like bones said, it nothing in Gnome or KDE can shake a stick at XFCE.

@bones: is it me, or does that wallpaper cry out for some monochrome filter or something? i almost wanna see it in black, white and red, Sin City style ;)

@rhow: hell yeah, that would be awesome! Wanna try your hand at it?

@Dr: I agree, so far I like equo quite a bit. Also haven't tried to emerge from source yet.

here's my attempt. since i dont know Photoshop, most of this was done with simple image filters (contract, posterize, etc) and handwork. in Aura2, a program nobody ever heard of. on Windows 7 because it wont work properly in Wine. so there. i kinda like the outcome :)

^^ Aura2? Googling does me no good, as I only come up with a vidya-game. Tell me what this magic you speak of is...

@Dr: http://digitalcontentproducer.com/mag/v ... index.html - it's a pixelpaint & animation program. a friend of mine does animation and when i was young and impressionable he used his charms to get me into animation as well, so i learned the program and now it is simply what i know best. it is limited, yet cool :)

thanks for the compliments guys :)

This is Quacksalver, an ISO from 2013 or so, dist-upgraded after over a year. LightDM, systemd, gtk3, full bloat.

It is recommended to:
make a dist-upgrade outside of X
remove apt-listbugs prior to the dist-upgrade
stop LightDM and remove it
switch to startx as login method
pull systemd and udevd from experimental

There are a few hickups when you upgrade udev and systemd, it will need a cold boot once because it cannot overwrite a running session. A trick would be to boot without the init=/bin/systemd entry -- forgot to add this above.
apt-listbugs was buggy last year (exit code 10) so it is safer to purge it and reinstall later if wished. Everything else was easy.

Little changed from last time, but I was excited when I saw kernel 4.0.0 pulled in, so a scrot felt like the right thing to do.

^ thanks. I stole the wallpaper from here, can't remember who shared it but I love it. Otherwise, same old XFCE with same old applications. :)

Edit: found it, Eren shared it.

The fonts, is this Cantarell or Droid or something like this? Icons seem like Faenza :)
