Thing is, if you already have all the gstreamer, systemd and gtk3 stuff, then these programs are only a few kilobyte "overhead". Some of us have systems that are <1.2GB in installed size (not ISO size), some even without gtk. I'm extremist and always make a dependency count before installing anything. Mental disease, not to be taken seriously though :)

^ No it's totally fine :) I understand and I would do the same if I had an extra hdd or machine, I would go Yin Yang on them, bloat in one system the other would be lean and mean :D

^ See, I just go Yin on this one:

Code: Select all

user@grill:~$ sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 37.3 GiB, 40007761920 bytes, 78140160 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

:)

Fantastic scrot, dkeg :D Embarrassingly enough, I just realized last night that I could control 2b with keybindings too... that was a happy moment.

Dude! That does deserve a bitch slap.

Well now young one, I cannot give out all my secrets.
Nah, ha, I do it manually, for now.
I change color within my stats script. I'm on my phone now. Can help you out later.
Oh, and wow, ha, that was fast! I didn't post those colors yet. Did you extract from that wallpaper?

Dr. C. I'm curious. What about 2bwm did you like before you realized the movement options? What was the draw?

A big part of it being my goto now is the movement options, else, I'd still use cwm. There are only a couple that add that little bit extra for me. Grouping though is better than workspace. So a bit of a trade off. Isn't it alway's though!
*really must try out z3bra's fork at some point

I'm still yet to try 2bwm but can you guys tell me the difference between tags and groups ?

^^ You know, this is going to sound quite dumb, but I really only started using Venam's 2b back in June when I started playing with org-mode. I asked on #rice about how to change dwm keybindings so that it wouldn't conflict with Emacs, and "someone" by the name of z3bra recommended 2bwm as a decent alternative. I installed Arch (which was a stretch for me at the time) and tossed on 2b from the AUR an d voila! Emacs worked w/o conflict. I hadn't even heard of evilwm or most of the others, otherwise I would have used doze instead :D I have learned a lot since I joined the bbq, but I still like the borders on 2bwm better than most of the others. The keybindings are now a huge plus, though! I couldn't believe that I hadn't read about them anywhere else. I have chosen almost everything in Linux by accident so far, but it hasn't panned out too badly ;D

Tags or workspaces are like sandboxed spaces where an application lives. If your browser is on #2, then you go to #2 to view it. Anything on #1 is out of sight.
Groups are a way to leverage multiple views in a single space by giving applications labels. You can then show and hide based on label.

^ Thanks for explaining dkeg :D

Then Tags and Groups seem to be the same thing to me. You can do the same thing with tags as they are not like workspaces :)

NP. I agree. Labels and Tags are typically used as a method for enabling the filtering content, or in this case applications. However, herbstluftwm uses tags as workspaces, where one could add rules to each workspace. Not sure how dwm implemented them.
