That is a reserved space for an optional panel (dzen2 should fit there), IIRC, pretty much like you can have in cwm, for example.

@zazen: a totally unrelated question for you: do you not use spaces after your periods (sentences) on purpose (for example by way of some artistic and/or revolutionary statement), or is something strange going on with your keyboard?
