ywliwm

Unread post by pidsley » Mon Dec 01, 2014 4:05 am

I warned Joe I was thinking about this. ywliwm ("you won't like it window manager") is based on catwm and opossum, but I hesitate to call it a fork -- it's more like a brutal excision of code I didn't need. Everything runs full screen (think of ratpoison or your favorite tiler in permanent monocle mode). Workspaces are still there, but no tiling at all. That's what tmux is for.

This is a Sunday-night hack (and there are other window managers that do this just as well) so don't ask me to release it. Just A fun "what happens if I..." project.

Almost. It doesn't renumber workspaces, so if you have (for example) tmux on ws1, leafpad on ws2, and firefox on ws3, when you close leafpad ws2 is empty and the others are still on 1 and 3.

You won't like it. Did I mention that? ;)

It is working fine here.
Though posting a scrot of my solarized st with tmux on ws1 and emacs on ws2 is just pointless. ;)

Great. It does what it says on the tin. Grabbed it, set it up once to run the three main applications on their designated workspace and left it alone. Everything is fine. Thank you.

Of course a screenshot doesn't make much sense (see Gekko) :)
