Re: Screenshots
OK, my first screenshot of VirtualBox ... took a bit for me to get it set up but now that it's here:
Dark64 - Dark32 and Bakewell - which one to install first.... well, second really Darkside64 was here once.
I think the next install will be Bakewell for two reasons:
1. Bakewell: amd64, no DM, no GTK3, minimal
- - while it is 64bit, there is no gtk3 and minimal. Now that MB how to get a list of gtk2 apps I want to "Sector11-ize" it and see what I van do.
2. Darkside64 was already here ... it might make it back someday.
Won't be able to update|dist-upgrade 'bakewell' right away but I can play with it. Make a couple of tweaks I have in mind. I wonder how well 'jed edit' and I will get along. :D
Thanks for the spins. Sometime over the weekend I'll post a "Bakewell - First Impressions" - a noobs point of view.

hahaha about the only thing I'll do to that conky (at first) is change the font - to match my all text conky.gurtid wrote:default bakewell conky for sector11's sake
not for hardcore "terminal font" lovers.
Oh ... and stop (or drop) tint2.

Re: Screenshots
@sector: if jed doesn't do it for you - there are many many text editors that you should really try one after the other:
- nano (absolutely rocks, I use this like 80% of the time)
- mcedit (the default editor/viewer in mc, can be turned black and white with mcedit -b)
- joe (some people like it, I don't)
- ne (the Nice Editor, remember double-tab [Esc])
- vi (no comment)
- emacs (no comment)
Just a butt-kick into the right direction :D

Re: Screenshots
I've been using vi (and now vim) since I was a wee lad-ess so having that as an editor is second nature. It does have a pretty big learning curve though and if I was just starting out now I'd probably be using something different.

{ouch} That's what I like about baconator - subtle to the core. :Dmachinebacon wrote:Just a butt-kick into the right direction :D
I think of everything I see up there nano will probably be where I go. Plus it has the little cheat lines at the bottom (^x Exit etc). I have used it with various sudo commands ... vi(m) for me is a laberanthe. emacs I have no opinion having never even seen it.
mc is default file manager in bakewell how come mcedit wasn't used there?
@ chilli - and so I am ... just starting out with terminal editors ... that is.
I went from Gedit, to Kate back to Gedit to SciTE (hate it) to Medit to Geany of which Medit and Geany are still in action here. Medit because it colour codes conky files and Geany has a spellchecker and I do not use a word processor.
Gotta check out wordgrinder too! But that's not a text editor.

Re: Screenshots
Mcedit and nano share the success. If i don't add nano people will kill me.

Re: Screenshots
@Sector11 I don't think you can go wrong with nano. Most people I know that use it love it.
Re: Screenshots
I use emacs, vim, and nano...emacs more than anything else.
The learning curve for vim and emacs is pretty extreme. I personally had nano down in about 15 minutes. I've still not totally mastered either of the other two, and I spend 90% of my computing time editing text. Take that for what it's worth.

Thanks Joe. If you talk learning curves like that I'd say my curve would be straight up with a 200 pound weight tied to my ankles. :D Nano it is - or jed :D
I had used mc (Midnight Commander) today, was the first real 'test drive' ever ... reminds me of DOS Navigator or File Commander in a lot of ways. Gotta play with that more.

I don't see a :wq at the end of your post, so you obviously haven't been using it long enough =Pchilli wrote:I've been using vi (and now vim) since I was a wee lad-ess so having that as an editor is second nature. Re: Screenshots
My KDE Challenge scrot - not as impressive as most of the ones posted above (especially digz's), but it IS KDE and it IS running in 204M with everything I need installed (LibreOffice, Gimp etc).

Re: Screenshots
This is a screenshot of a window manager that I just finished called nullWM. It can be downloaded at https://github.com/DebianJoe/nullWM. I'm pretty damn sure it's the smallest X window manager that's ever been written, coming in at all of 20 or so sloc. Download it!
If you need help with the install, tell me and I'll write up a "How to build and install" document, which will probably double the entire size of the project.
