I have installed this to chat with you guys on #bbq (?), but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing! I managed to /help- then couldn't get out of it- and do not know what to do next.
Join? Connect?
weechat was worse- I couldn't type anything, so I was stuck looking at the welcome screen.
After you've finished lyao- and I think that's only appropriate- Could one of y'all just throw me just enough to get me in?
I will wing it and learn it from there :))

You should always $SEARCH_ENGINE some stuff first or read the manual pages / web documentation. :)

Re: ircII
^^ If you aren't ircII savvy, you might want to look at irssi or weechat instead (and their respective ArchWiki pages!). Both are lighter weight options but are a little more "intuitive" and feature rich.
But, if you are still wanting ircII, these look like great places to start learning!

(FWIW, I use rcirc in Emacs instead of ircII or weechat anymore because I already have it installed with Emacs whether I want it or not :D)

Re: ircII
Thanks, y'all! I installed weechat first, so I'll give it a first look. I did not think a thing like chat could be so complex, lols! Off to study....

Re: ircII
once you are down with all the connections as above, then you can edit the $config_file to autologin.
I just run the program and it logs in for me.
important to know the basics, if you get stuck in a tty without another device to google.
Looking at your scrot ircII seems to have logged you into it's own server. So might have to - and i'm guessing here - to /disconnect ?
(yes you really do need to prefix commands with forward slash)

Re: ircII
quite surprised ircII is still in the repos... not quite sure if anybody else uses it here at the grill. usually the guys pick irssi or weechat, but to each his own :)

Re: ircII
Like the others said. Read documentation, quick how-to's. As MB says, from where you are (scrot), you would need to connect to a server, irc.freenode.net, then join a channel. You can connect to multiple servers and multiple channels on a server.
Our channel is #linuxbbq on the freenode server

My short term memory strikes again :( Somebody fill in the blanks:
/server add ______________
I can take it from there.

Re: ircII
^ That will have to bloody well cover it, very easy, organised and readable documentation. Does not get much better than that. :D

Re: ircII
I had heard that Verizon was going to start blocking Tor connections some time ago, and I started using bridges just to avoid it, but I don't even have the Tor overlay on this system. I never heard about them blocking irc. The time that I was on last, I was on Verizon, that's why I figured I had just messed up and forgot exactly how I got on the server last. I should have used that autoconnect command to save it, but I forgot to because I was rushing between my unload and the yard- and then a million things once I got there, so I turned the box off to cool.
