openrc - init system
OpenRC, the Gentoo init system, is now in the sid repo. It is easy to install; just remember to run the "for file in /etc/rc0.d/K*" command shown on the Debian wiki page after you install: https://wiki.debian.org/OpenRC
Once it is running, you can use the "rc-update" and "rc-status" commands to configure the services. See the respective man pages for more details. You will probably not need to change anything.

Re: openrc - init system
So here I am, booting with OpenRC. It worked absolutely flawless, and the good thing, pidsley, is that we can indeed include it for future spins. The live-config uses sysvinit-core to boot, but the installed session uses openrc. We don't need to worry about sysvinit for the live session, they are just the scripts that run from ISO. We got a winner here.

Nice. I will try putting it on another test machine and running it for a while.

Re: openrc - init system
Alpine linux uses it, IIRC - I didn't notice much difference, not that I tested it much, does have pretty colours on boot 8)
Although looking at pidsleys scrot maybe not for debian...

Re: openrc - init system
yes, I am glad to see these posts. Still would like to do some more work with minit, but had eyes on this too. I read through your other experiment post you put together a little while back. My time is more sporadic now. Anyway, its pretty cool getting into this area of the system.

Re: openrc - init system
switched to openrc recently from minirc/ busybox modified script ( primarily because of my laziness setting up postgresql on busybox rc )
a bit off topic here, mr. pidsley have you tried epoch init system? always curious of that one

Mr. Pidsley came to visit me in #epoch on Freenode. Yes it is I, god of ANSI, lord of time, and I have shined on you to derail your thread talking about my own init system. You should feel honored.

That sounds even more vain than derailing the thread here. :^3
I can only do so many vain things before my head goes boom, so I'll wait for someone to take interest.

Good sir, why don't you simply *open the thread* with your bare hands? :D You can introduce your work for all those motherfuckers like me who are too lazy to click the link :DSubsentient wrote:That sounds even more vain than derailing the thread here. :^3
