We all use some kind of adblocker in our browsers. Why not using it in Spotify, too? If you are not subscribed to the service you always have the annoying adds popping out of your speakers. You listen to some Jazz and suddenly comes a track of 50 Cent, meh!
This nice tool blocks those annoying ads by just muting them or even playing another song for you (needs Pulse). It is pretty self explanatory. I found it on the Arch Wiki:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/spotify
That means you can find it in the AUR but it is also on Github, great.
https://github.com/mikar/blockify
And that is how you get it going on Debian. Just use the pip tool. Run it and by default it blocks the ads, works like a charm.
If you want to start blockify automatically when Spotify starts go back to the Arch Wiki.
Side note: I did not try the GUI tool. :)
